Been playing around with an external sequencer attached to my MPC Live 2 lately and come across what I thought was quite strange behaviour when the physical SHIFT button is pressed.
In short; holding SHIFT prevents the MPC from receiving incoming MIDI signals. Definitely stops both note information when set to Track mode and stops Control signals set up in MIDI learn from reaching their destinations. Haven't tested with the Global option.
At first it took me by surprise and took a little wile to work out what was going on. Once I had worked it out I found it makes it possible to do some nice little variations from any screen of the MPC (depending on your balance of external to internal parts, and taking into account notes may end up held as they wont receive the note off.) Thus I don't know whether to think it's a glaring bug or a hidden feature....
Is this mentioned anywhere in the manual? It's definitely not on the Front Panel section where it explains the buttons of the unit, but maybe it's buried deep in there somewhere....

Do you still have that Stop sticker on your shift button?
