Thanks for your concern, but I didn‘t have any bad experience with the silver Studio running it‘s original software. (supplied on DVD, Essentials 1.2)
In fact it‘s still running on an old MacMini, just doesn‘t get much use atm.

Yet all updates on their way to MPC 2.x didn‘t add anything to my personal user experience, up to a point where the control surface barely existed (if at all, iirc in Beats).
This is highly subjective (with 2 DAWs already running I had no need for plugins) and of course this doesn‘t apply to users who want (or need) all under 1 hood.
But it revealed a similar pattern I know from „modern“ Apple.

That‘s why the idea of not upgrading too early (or each and every sub version) makes sense to me.
I‘m not ungrateful, though... because the Studio led to a purchase of a MPC4K, which quickly became a favorite piece of gear :smoker:
Now it’s non-update heaven, together with MacOS9 and SoundDiver to control my midi gear.

That was.....dunno, 3-4 years of more ago and we're still waiting.

Who cares what dan gill said in the dusty corner of a back room? You actually stored that information in your brain? You arent even the first guy the claim this and the funny part is: Did he say that to you? can you reference where he said it? .. and does anybody care?

Dan posted it loud and clear in the now 1000+ page MPC Live thread on Gearslutz, and this isn't anywhere remotely 'new' news and I am pretty sure many of us have referenced when and where it was posted over the past few years here. You can go read all of his crap for yourself if you really want to dig through that thread. That was what 2019 though? I'm not sure why ANYONE is still holding their breath thinking anything he promised is coming heh.

He already warned everyone the whole 'arrangement' and 1 to 1 track layout everyone wanted would require a complete rewrite of the OS. Do you really believe a bunch of greedy venture capitalists like InMusic want their revenue stream stopped while they let Akai re-write their money maker?

I know he is or was product manager but I also think he exaggerates and that was likely an exaggeration that got blown WILDLY out of proportion or misinterpreted.

FWIW just had a chat with tech support as the activation issue has gone off the charts for me on this latest firmware, have to login almost every time i switch on the X... problem was acknowledged, the chatter (assuming human) said he had the same problem (he was helpfully quite specific about it) and it was a known issue. Some talk again about time zones and time settings. Will have to implement and report back. Changing time settings did (temporarily) fix the issue before… I have little faith this problem will ever be fully sorted though.

For the FIRST time ever I got logged off, plug-ins not activated, I had to log in via ipad on the website while X was waiting for confirmation. What. Why did this happen?

Yes lamp, this has now happened to me several times, used to just have to connect to wifi and reactivate, now I have to do the whole login process... this firmware has done something new and not good

hence why i suggested to not take every update blindly when it comes out;

for example if ur mpc is not crashing or having any issues, and u see there is a new update why bother update if u see no new features that u want?

some people just take every update cos the update is avaialbe; but u just risk introducing bugs for no real feature benefits.

even if the update says it has bug fixes, often times those bug fixes are not relavent if ur not currently experincing any bugs in ur workflow

Take the update if I want.
The option to roll back is there so, not a big problem.

I mentioned this before explaining why plugins deactivate but nobody listens to redhate... erm ultros...

the reason your plugins deactivate is because of two list files that exist. one is in the rootfs of your system rom, and the other is stored on a data partition. When akai makes a change the file then changes. Your mpc automatically retreives this file if its plugged into the internet. Once the two dont match your plugins are unauthenticated. Also this same thing happens when you install a rom. the odd time people luck out and the file in the rom is the same file that is the active on the server, but eventually it will change when new plugins come out or akai feels as though people have had enough time.

It's not a bug, its by design so you are FORCED to reactivate them so your plugins are legit and you have full access to all the latest available plugins. It will stop when akai stops making plugins or updates to the plugin list.

Get used to it now cus for as long as akai is rolling out updates it will continue. its a natural process.

so if the option to roll back is there; why are peeps complaining about bugs and having to re-activate plugins when they can just roll back? or is it just for info purposes, i guess

Explained well and that makes sense.
