NAMMhas fallen off massively from a sampling producer perspective

Yup. It's may end up like E3.

Funny I'm agreeing with here after just disagreeing with you on GearSpace.com. Happy weekend!

Makes you wonder what it would take to get an LFO or three for the sampling engine.. Not to mention a proper mod matrix.

At least it's not a subscription. Sad as it may be I interpret it as Akai/InMusic/whoever see it like the current state of competition means they can get away with it. I mean look at Roland. Maybe they know something we don't about what Korg is planning too.

Well if that's what it takes.. At this point I'd be willing to pay for certain things Akai seem to feel aren't of any interest to what they think of as their main/desired customer.

Buttons light up, so I'm guessing it's yet another new MPC One... we'll see!

Nice new MPC.. all I would want is the X SE ram upgrade for my X

I thought the results in the Andy Mac video were surprisingly good, especially considering there's no way to tweak the algorithm. My experience of stem separation software is generally underwhelming, often the results can sound like a bad mp3 encode, so I'm definitely going to reserve judgement until I can run the final release through various different source materials.

Definitely understand the reservations... The sample used in Andy Mac's video was of pretty high quality, so I'm guessing that (clearances aside) helped make the separation sound better. I'm thinking that if you used a lower quality sample the separation will be much worse. Garbage in, garbage out.

About the pricetag, I'm sure InMusic is probably also licensing the same STEMS tech other paid softwares are using. i.e. (Serato and the like)

I've blown 10 bucks on far worse things than this so I'm not completely upset about this cost.

Yes the cost is nothing, but I guess that's the experiment they want to conduct, i.e. small little payments here and there to unlock extra OS features (I think unlock being the operative word here, as I suspect these features will most likely be embedded and hidden in the core firmware).

I don't have any issue with offering paid extras for existing users, as long as they still continue developing the core firmware. One thing to consider is whether they are going to continue developing these premium plugins with new improvements and bug fixes (like you would expect if buying a VST plugin)? I'm not seeing any of that yet.

Facebook Research's Demucs, which is Stemroller's backend is already the processor for quite a few free web stem separation services. I know this because, when they don't degrade the quality, I get exactly the same files as Stemroller, to the bit !

If Akai's integration also uses Alexandre Défossez's Demucs (forked from Facebook Research since he left Meta), then it isn't bad at all - Stemroller served me well last night to untangle a voice & guitar recording from a friend who couldn't be arsed to record them separately on her phone !

The sound quality seems excellent.

Seriously how is this working in standalone? It's crazy CPU usage I would think especially since the MPCs understandably don't have GPUs capable of anything like that! :worthy:

He's not working in standalone - Stems only works in Controller Mode (currently) and must be running in the MPC Software. That's his desktop CPU.

Right but isn't it going to be identical in standalone with the only possible change being the time it takes? It certainly can't sound different.

Oh yes, because NAMM was always geared at bedroom 'sample producers', not the rest of audio industry from the film industry, guitar players, live audio, production houses, etc...

Ever actually been to NAMM? I live right by it, and have been tons of times. There's a lot more than hip hop kids playing with their MPC's there, in fact most folks that go aren't even remotely close to that demographic..

i am only interested in the beat maker sample related stuff; hence why i said its fallen off from that perspective

Correct me if I’m wrong but there will be no realtime stem separation (neither in controller mode nor standalone), so once you activate the stem separation from sample edit then the cpu in the MPC has all the time it needs to perform the operation. So in standalone it could take a whole lot of time, but in the end the result will be of course the same as in controller mode.

Edit: just noticed you were saying exactly the same :WTF:
