What music do you make?

This was being discussed in another thread, it's only a survey of the forum user base, but I thought it would be nice know.

I make dance music. I'm old, so it's dance music that's electronic, and it's not EDM. I like synths and beats and grooves that sit outside of a one bar mindset. So somewhere between Techno and house. Started out with Orbital, bands like Chemical Brothers less Bigbeat stuff and more later synth tracks, Early Daft Punk and soulwax. Somewhere in that kind of vibe.

I used to make TeckStep and NeuroFunk, Ed Rush and Optical kind of vibe.

Last band was Goth music. Next one is a darkwave duo.

In the past I have done synthpunk and new wave, but not on the MPC.

Somewhere between techno, house, dance. Stuff that swings. 909 drums, latin percussion loops, moving basslines, thick syncopated chords. Ambient weirdness as well occasionally. Moved from MPC to Force, but the style of music didn't change at all, it's just much more comfortable with a Force.

Boombap/hip hop. Sampled based (mostly) people say my stuff is “underground” whatever the **** that means. But I’m assuming they mean it doesn’t sound mainstream. The beats that sell the most are soul sample type beats but I really love darker grittier shit.

Hiphop / boombap. Eastcoast 90s vibe stuff, mostly Wu-Tang, Mobb Deep and Muggs influenced stuff really.

I started off like this but then in early-mid 2000s (around the Crunk era) that sound was kinda dying plus I started listening to more music outside of the Hip-Hop bubble & my desire to be artistically unique lead me to not want music to fit into any 1 genre. Now I just make my own music which the same as my music name "Poetic-Noise".

I'm equally skilled at keyboard/original & sample based music. A lot of my stuff wouldn't really qualify as "beats" since I don't follow typical song structure & stop making instrumentals intended for rappers/vocalist & it may be over 3-4 minutes.

Crazy thing is when I stop making "beats" I became a way better musician.

I always try to make “beats” that stand on their own and don’t need or want a vocalist. Sometimes they lean a little more this genre or that genre but the goal remains the same.

jungle, dnb and boombap

breakcore, hardcore-influenced jungle, industrial, ambient\darkambient\noiseambient, downtempo, mainly broken beats + atmosphere. occasionally a kind of uk garage\2 step but with a darker atmosphere, other weird stuff. now i'm working with a keyboard player in a freeform duo, beats and percussions inspired by middle-east traditional rhythms reworked and deconstructed, dub-influenced, partly improvised stuff. hip hop has always been a huge influence but i never made strictly beats (tho i have a beat album sitting in the hard disk waiting for me to decide what to do with it)

i'd like to throw in this caveat to this question; what music did u start off making when u first got into the MPC world + what r u making now?

I am not a regular daily or weekly beat maker anymore; I can often go several months without making a beat.

But started off hip hop; and as time went by, made attempts to dabble in some housey/techno/broken beat vibes, but I always dip back to hip hop/downtempo/trip-hopish vibes.

Going forward would like to do all types including some drum&bass/jungle; but hip hop will always be included.

I started off making hip hop beats from the start and I continue to do so since the mid-nineties, although I only learned about the art of sampling more than ten years later. This gave my productions‘ quality quite a bump and I was finally able to make the music I enjoyed listening to. The MPC added more to that, and suddenly it was fun again. My first album is now on the way (finally) although I‘ve had various minor releases. I have performed with spoken vocals, too on several of them.

Originally I am a musician usually doing classic, jazz and blues (as pianist, guitarist and singer), but have delved into other electronic genres besides hip hop in a playful manner. Dubstep, jungle and drum‘n‘bass were among those as well as other electronica (in between house, synthwave, techno etc.).

Nowadays I mostly focus on hip hop in a boom-bap manner. Home is where the heart is.

curious what made u gravitate towards mpc given ur style of music? as I would expect that u would of gone for the elektron octatrack, or something of that ilk.

Same leanings. After considering Roland MC101, MC707 and Digitakt, I chose MPC One for its superior sampling workflow, for its large screen, for its unmatched value for money and for its incredible versatility with a couple more onboard synths - add a compact keyboard and there's the do-everything DAW in a portable box... No GAS !

Mostly boombap, but try several styles for the pleasure
