I had an Emu 6400 Ultra back in the 90's, it was always Emu vs Akai back then. Most dance music was made on them, with a few exceptions. When I got back into hardware synths, I didn't know about Electron. I was on a search for a drum machine first and wanted something simple, then got a Korg Electribe Sampler instead. I found some basic things a bot limiting and when I saw the MPC and how it could sequence my synths so well I was surprised at the value..

What I’m actually making now: nothing. Don’t have the time the last few years to actively compose and complete new tracks.

What I want/plan to eventually get around to making: 80s ElectroFunk. My favorite genre of electronic instrument composed music.

What I’ve made in the past with previous gear: Electro, electronic, experimental, etc.

I have a full sample set from my old 1994 Yamaha RY-20 drum machine. This has AWM-2 sampled kits from various styles of drum kits, including Jazz, Rock, Metal, Brush, Classical, 808 & 909 equivalents, etc. Once I get around to creating MPC kits from this sample set, I want to compose in my other favorite listening genres: Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Old School Hip-Hop (80s-early 90s), etc.

I'm not currently working on music in any sort of set genre. I have only had the MPC for a couple of weeks and I am focused on learning how to use this beast. As far as electronic instruments go this is far beyond anything I have previously used (80s/90s cheese factories, a monologue, microfreak and circuit tracks) and I don't have much experience of DAWs either.

I come from a blues, rock and metal background and most of the music I listen to and have played for the last 20+ years comes from that world. My first instrument (aside from primary school recorder awfulness) was the guitar. However as I have got older my tastes have got broader and I have found that I do love electronic music too, the likes of Tangerine Dream and Kraftwerk were the gateway drug, this lead to the likes of synthwave and trip hop broadening from my horizons further.

What I want to do at the moment is just learn and I am open to trying pretty much any style of music.

I‘m doing psytrance/dark forest. I‘m using the mpc for drums and sequencing hardware synths. But i don‘t finish any tracks. It´s just for fun playing around with my machines…. To less time for doing more.

i know the question wasn't asked to me but it's an interesting one... before my first mpc (2kxl) i had experience with a yamaha rm1x groovebox, but it was borrowed so then i bought an electribe sampler (the old green one) thinking it might have been able to sequence my other stuff but soon found out how much limited it was, then after some research i came to the conclusion that the only piece of hardware gear capable of sequencing complex midi stuff and still be fun to play with was the mpc range, and i still think this is true. especially the fact we can have sequences short as 1 bar or long as 999 bars... the crippling of time signature on current mpc line is a drawback but still the mpc range is the most capable standalone composing tool i know of.

As a late starter I tested the MPC way with a silver Studio and liked it, considering an MPC-X.
The direction into which Akai was steering with current hardware and software didn‘t really appeal, though.
Some (deep) research resulted in the MPC2kxl to be it, until a fully extended MPC4k showed up in the neighborhood for a fair price.
Love it... and couldn‘t be happier, one of my best purchases ever.

I‘m in no particular kind of music, any weird stuff will fit.
But the MPC is my personal rhythm/groove teacher, revealing details of existing loops and creating challenges and exercises to improve bass skills.
Thought „who needs practice anyway ?“ for way too long.

The MPC4k also controls all my midi gear in a kind of master keyboard way.
I don‘t fully „produce“ on it, but it delivers stems to DAW (old Pro Tool TDM) and may send/receive fx (to/from PT, current MacOS, iPad, some outboard). Very versatile.
(main gear P-Bass, Telecaster, 2 acoustic guitars, Yamaha TX7, Casio CZ/VZ, Kawai XD-5, Lexicon Vortex, SRV2000, Intellifex)

I mostly make dub techno or something like it. Sometimes acid techno or other techno stuff.
My music is very monotonous, i make it for myself. Lots of minor chords into delays and effects.

Fairly new at MPCs. Got my MPC One in 2022. I almost never use samples but i do record and use the audio tracks often. The way the sequencer works is great for me. Just a few annoyances i'd like to see fixed.
