when u people say dre brings people in to play live music, do u mean he single strike samples or the whole loops that we hear?

coz to me, his music sounds programed, rather then played.

couldn't give a **** about em or 50 im talking dre and his own stuff- whether it be the chronic or whatever- the em stuff is lame lame lame and dont feel he composed it more over produced it...and i agree your only as good as your last release....

It annoys me also. Yeah, Em's new stuff does sound overproduced, but because he is who he is, the masses will eat it up.

I don't plan on coppin his new stuff cause of the annoyance factor.

I just have to add my bit here. Even though I should be doin something else right now, (like working on my tracks!) I can't resist!

Dre is a businessman. His 1st and foremost thought is business. He has the ability to be able to produce stuff that makes people nod their heads or dance or whatever they do. He started as a dj 20 years or so ago and he could rock a club big time. He keeps the majority of his beats simple, coz thats what works in a commercial way. His stuff is always clean and easy to follow.

As a producer he makes his artists step up to their highest level. His main job is to over see a project regardless of who plays the music or writes the beats. Anyone heard "Just don't give a ****" off the "Slim Shady EP"???? Or the "Infinite" LP?? Dre made Eminem step up to the plate commercially, in a big way.

He has no control over where his artists go from there.

No-one can make hits everytime, or tracks everyone's gonna like. But Dre broke through more musical barriers than almost any artist around EVER. Metal heads used to listen to NWA back in the day. He broke into the white audience back in the 80's. Big time.

So what number one charting producer do you guys like? I mean you guys say you don't like Dre and I sure you guys hate Neptunes, and thay both have number charting music, so what producer do you like that has recently charted a number one hit?

well in any case, thanks for the heads up on that Game CD. The one thing about Dre's stuff is the production quality is always high. I dont know if that's because of the people he colabs with or what but it's been pretty consitent for the last of his albums I've heard.

Just remember people, dr dre is a great producer(coach) and a ok or so so beat maker(player). Phill jackson wasn't a great basketball player, matter afact he was the 10th man but he is one of the greatest nba coaches ever. That's the way I look at dre. Dre alone on a beat aiint all that cause why would someone need help from others(ghost or co producers) to do what he can do by hiself. So to me dre isn't overated, just misunderstood.

Big fan of Dre o'er here mang...the dude has what industry heads refer to as "The Golden Touch". I'm sick of people saying he doesn't make the tracks with his name on them. Maybe he enlists help. For arguments sake, let's say he just stamps his name on alot of stuff. But lets keep in mind: the ish that he stamps his name on was made by people copying a style that he invented on his own, and with the help of some of the best programmers and musicians in hip-hop and funk music. If you listen to the sonic quality of his stuff, you can hear why using analog tape, a high end console, and a dope ear for mixing (most importantly) can give you a fantastic sound.
Read all those articles about how the man works; it ain't the same old triton-to-protools crap that everyone from Harlem to Atlanta is churning out. I got respect for Dre and most of his whole camp. Yes, XXL is on their dillz, but seriously, 50 had the biggest numbers out the gate since...I don't know who. My question is, who else is making good sounding records right now that also produce and maintain career artists? Not alot of people. For over 15 years, this cat has set standards and kept his artists fed. And those artists still have careers and know how to make serious music. I can't say that about any other camp in the game right now.

I think he´s overrated.. I just have Dr. Breaks wich is a soul cd/record with all tracks dre sampled from. He samples way toooo much man.. Can he even play an instrument?? He cant rap anymore, thats for sure.. Seen him live lately?? Oooh my
Tho I love his Chronics.
