I'm trying to figure out how to get my wav files onto my external hard drive. the external hard drive has a scsi port. Can i connect my external hd to my computer using a scsi to usb cable?

Thanks!

Yeah you could try that providing its not connected to the MPC at the same time.

SCSI to USB adaptors are meant to be pretty crappy. I guess it depends what type of SCSI interface u have on your hard drive. (DB25 or 50, 68 or what?)

Cheers.

"SCSI to USB adaptors are meant to be pretty crappy."

I have a hard time believing that Adaptec (THE name when it comes to SCSI) intentionally designed and sold me a product that has already out-lasted several computers. I guess they did a bad job of designing a crappy product. We'll just see if I buy any of their "so-called" crappy products again.

"I guess it depends what type of SCSI interface u have on your hard drive. (DB25 or 50, 68 or what?)"

What exactly depends on the type of SCSI interface? Crappiness? What does the number of pins have to do with it?

I have a HD50 pin port on my external hd.

The easiest/cheapest route appears to be buying an scsi to usb adapter that wil allow me to load the wav files from my sample disks to my external hd via my pc. However, I was told that you cannot transfer audio files via usb, which doesn't make sense since I use my usb port to transfer music to my minidisk.

If I can in fact transfer wav files via the usb to scsi cable does anyone have any recommendations for brands?

Thanks very much to those of you who responded. I really appreciate it.

Well MPC3000,

I must have heard wrong. But I don't think u have a scsi to usb adaptor on your MPC do u? I know Adaptec are a great company that make top of the line products. I was refering to whether a usb to scsi or vice versa adaptor would work with anything to do with an MPC. I was mistaken when I read the post, as to what this guy wanted to do. If you can tell me that I can hook up a HD50 to USB adaptor to my mpc and run an external usb drive from it, I'll go buy one tomorrow.

The reason I mentioned the pin interfaces is from what I know the later the interface the better and faster the performance. I take it a HD50 interface is better than a centronics interface??

Anyway, I know you are an "expert member" and I give u your props.

Maybe I just shouldnt post replys here, I was only trying to help this dude out with the knowledge I have. Which is why I said "Heard" in reference to using one with an MPC. So u can tell him what he should do because u seem to be in the know.

All the best.
