Korg fell off from the sampler game. They should've took note when the ES2 sold more than the EM2 and the Volca Sample sold more than all the Volcas. People wanted samplers but they kept giving us toy pianos and lego synth kits. Now they wanna charge you $1k for half ass sampler...they out their got dang minds!

IMHO, Korg sent out the Replay to the wrong people. This unit seems more aimed at DJs that do mashups, blends & remixes live. It fits the needs of someone who needs to perform their songs/tracks/remixes live. Or someone who wants a fun master FX unit with the ability to sample. The Replay reminds me of a stripped down Pioneer DJS-1000 sampler.

IF Korg puts in the work(firmware updates) & listens to user feedback- I can see the Replay being a future classic. If Roland can put out quality firmware updates that greatly improved the SP404mk2 then Korg should be able to do the same with the Replay. Will Korg continue to improve the Replay with firmware updates? :hmmm: Who knows?

yeah korg dropped the ball but I thought the grey electribe 2 sold just a s well and the sample electribe; but yeah korg seemed to want to distance themselve from that urban market place and focused on all dance products

Another feature that the Korg Replay needs is the ability to rename a sample. I just looked at the manual but it doesn't state if the Replay has this ability. Looks like my Pioneer DJS-1000 sampler released in 2018 is still more modern & has way more features then the Korg Replay. NAMM is around the corner so maybe Pioneer will release an MK2 version before Korg is able to include much needed features in a firmware update?

Electribe 3 combined synth and sampler yeah, but for f**k sake, add some decent storage space!

The replay looks good but as usual, Korg overprice their shit!

I would love a full blown mpc this size! Imagine an mpc live 3 mini with detachable side monitors! :worthy:

Quite agree. In my experience, Korg are a bit like inmusic, release it and forget it! So don't hold your breath for updates! If you're lucky they give you a couple firmware updates and that's it.

Sold the Roland SP404MK2 for the Korg Kaoss Replay. I did NOT like the workflow of the SP404mk2 at all! WAAAAAY too much menu diving & button combinations to remember. To me, it felt like trying to make music on a scientific calculator. On paper, the SP404mk2 has a ton a features but in real life it felt like all the features where Frankensteined in.

The Korg Replay has received so much hate by YouTube influencers for missing features & the price. It definitely doesn't have as many features as my Pioneer DJS-1000 sampler or my Isla Instruments s2400. For me that is part of why I like the Replay. Its dead simple to use & brings back the FUN of music making!

I was able to find an open box, mint condition Korg Replay for $650 on Ebay direct from Japan. Sold the SP404MK2 for $400. Had a $150 Ebay gift card left over from Christmas so the Replay only ended up costing me $100 out of pocket. Its the best $100 that I've spent in a long time!!

let us know how you familiarize with the Replay, im really curious. about the sp: i had the same feelings at the beginning, always having to lookup the manual or some notes... then i started clicking with it, which made me spend more time on it, now its second nature and i'm in honeymoon wiith the little bastard. anyway i totally get it how it might be frustrating to a lot of users.

So far, I find the Korg Replay most comparable in design & workflow to the Pioneer DJS-1000 sampler. It's def made to sit next to a mixer & some decks. The Replay excels at immediacy! The workflow is SUPER user friendly!! I found the workflow of the SP404mk2 & Akai's MPC workflow extremely clunky in comparison. The Replay is totally designed for LIVE remix use.

Another aspect of Korg's replay that is great are the FXs with the touch screen. I do wish the Replay could chain multiple FX, tho. Maybe that can be added in a future firmware update? Having 8 banks & being able to save up to 12 favorite Fx is awesome. You can also save up to 12 cue points per pad. So essentially 12 slices in each of the 16 pads with 8 banks. This is something that I wanted Pioneer to add to the DJS-1000 sampler but they never did. The build quality of the Replay is hands down WAAAY better than the SP404 MK2 and my Pioneer DJS-1000 sampler. I appreciated the portability of the Replay & YES it CAN be powered off of the right sized power bank. It has an all metal casing & nice feeling ,velocity rubberized pads. Overall the Korg Replay is great IF you can buy one at the price that I paid($650).

BTW, Korg if your secretly lurking here on this forum... YES, a sequencer is NEEDED!!! How about adding a SHIFT plus press the KAOSS PAD button to enter the sequencer mode. Have 16 pads displayed on the screen with the ability to name the sample in each pad. Then press the pad of the sound(sample) that you want to sequence &/or press the corresponding button on the screen. Keep it simple. Thanks!!
