My (very) old E-Mu sampler had a setting in the program edit for randomising LFO speed with each retrigger. Such a useful parameter.

Attempting to recreate this while reluctantly accepting the MPC’s limited modulation options, I’ve tried setting up a program using simultaneous pad play, where one pad with a slow LFO speed also triggers three other copies of the sample with varying faster LFO speeds; then setting all the pads to the same mute group, assuming that this would force some kind of randomisation: but it ain’t working…

Any other suggestions other than printing the differently LFO-affected samples as layers? I really don’t want to do that…

And yes, I’ve sold the E-Mu

Hey lamp, thanks - I tried to conceptualise using the layers because of the random function, but as the layers all share the same modulaion parameters as layer 1 it doesn’t seem to be relevant. Another great missed function of the 4000 - independent layer parameters!

The effect I want is for the lfo speed - a tremolo, basically - to change each time the sample replays in a one-bar loop. I’d do it manually but I’m operating other parameters so no hands/feet free

Thanks again Lamp… still no joy. I guess maybe the MPC prioritises the initial pad. Frustrating (as many have observed) how some of the basic sample manipulation from legacy MPCs and other systems still isn’t implemented, and let’s face it, probably won’t be…
