Phantom Power Problem

Hi Ive a mpcx and a brandnew rode nt1a mic.

My Problem: i turn the mpc on, the mic with +48v works only an few seconds, then the mic turns off, it becames quieter then off.

Is the phantom power brokn?

How the mpc makes 48v by only 19 v incoming power?

Hello, I have the exact same problem with a second hand mpc. Did you found the problem?

Voltage is stepped up through a circuit called a voltage multiplier. A common tool in DC circuitry. If you’re interested in the physics, I can explain but it has nothing to do with your problem so I wouldn’t get hung up on the fact that 19V can go in and 48V can come out. You can accept it on faith that the person who designed that circuit knows more about what they are doing.

That being said, what is the rated current draw of your microphone? It could be drawing more current than the X can supply. The microphone could be bad or the X could be.

May be broken or the mic is drawing too much power
The 48V are generated by a step-up converter (aka DC/DC converter) usually from a 5 or 12V line. It‘s a special IC plus a coil and some resistors and capacitors.
(technically a simple circuit, but replacing it needs SMD soldering)

The easiest „repair“ is too leave MPC phantom power off and use an external phantom power supply (about $50) instead. It‘s a rather common accessory.
