Absolutely agree, it makes little sense for them to perform a huge overhaul at this stage and there is nothing to suggest that they need to do this as most people seem very happy to buy into the $$$ piecemeal upgrades.

Of course, it's very easy to claim it has been completely re-built from the ground up (a new GUI helps in this regard).

3.0 or no 3.0, It would be cool to see an update that has better cpu optimization or something like that. Something where maybe we can get a few more plugins running in standalone. Or at least optimize Fabric a bit better, so I’m not waiting 15 seconds, tapping unresponsive pads like an idiot when changing presets. Ya know, just some quality of life type stuff would make me happy. It’s hard for me to imagine them bringing a bunch of Force features over, I already kinda want a Force at some point as a result of the exclusive features, which is exactly the point from a business perspective.

how do u know akai is at the tail end of the product lifecycle? for all u know they could be mid-life cycle.

also overhaul does not mean it will be completely re-written ( think windows 7 to windows 8)

stems is not an easy or small fix but they are putting resources behind it; so they are still in the mode of adding major new features and that is not indictive of a product that is end of life cycle.

RK3288, the platform for all contemporary MPC, is out of production - so all current MPC productions draw on a god-knows-how-big stock.

So, Akai has to be considering the future platform (RK3588, RK3566, not Rockchip ?) for the medium term, after having saturated every last market niche with increasingly improbable packagings of the current generation's platform - I half expect a MPC crammed in the Akai EWI USB form factor, so we can finally blow our MPC !

Not sure how much more clear I have to be, so I'll try to say it in slightly different words.

I'm against the obsession some people have that Akai must still make a big grand '3.0' release, despite several years of continually releasing a stream of rather large updates, many of which would have easily been worthy of a '3.0' release. If you asked someone back in 2019 whether the inclusion of plugins and audio midi interface support would have been '3.0' worthy, they would have bitten your hand off.

As I said, it's really not about people wanting a '3.0' as such, it more about people wanting disk streaming and the arranger (and possibly the tie in with the mythical 'gen 2 hardware'). They just seem to expect these features can only come with some kind of a '3.0' release, but that clearly no longer the case, Akai can just release any of these features at any time, possibly as another $$ unlock and just use whatever version numbers they feel like.

None of this obsession with version numbers matters when you have a company already continually releasing regular big updates. Seriously, it's not like Akai are sitting on their hands is it? Every time I see people moaning about the lack of 3.0 they just come across as a bit delusional considering everything we've seen added since the 2019 '3.0' post from Dan Gill.

So yes, everything about '3.0' winds me up and I will continue to get wound up about it until Akai just go ahead and release 'a' 3.0 just to shut people up (yeah, like that will work  )

Can someone make a 3.0 thread where we ONLY mention it there so other topics doesn't keep getting high jacked?

It's not too difficult to implement an open sourced library where somebody else did the heavy hitting of doing the actual hard coding

https://github.com/facebookresearch/demucs

https://pypi.org/project/spleeter/

I'm sure they'd happily even fix bugs if the fixes are available on the internet with a suitable license. And who knows, perhaps even the mythical MPC 3.0 software! Let's all start searching together, if we find this software from somewhere, we can tell Akai about it and then dreams come true. Or maybe AI can code it!

That was only possible as JJ was the person who actually coded the MPC1000 firmware. He was contracted by Akai to make it for them. When the relationship went sour he walked away with the code.

No third party is going to have access to the actual raw code behind the MPC these days. It would require one of the actual inMusic software coding team to go rogue.

While people are worrying about a MPC 3.0, I’ll keep making music with what I have. Frankly, it’s alot better than what I had starting out. Tomorrow isn’t promised. Live in the moment.

Besides, everyone knows that the AI beat advisor and AI mastering tools are coming in 4.0.

I want 3.0 if it has everything baked in without the annoying deregistration after updates and those awful seconds every time you load paid plugin and try to bring up the presets screen.
At the very least they should let all plugins start with the init patch. Keep bugging me out that every time I load flavor pro it loads that completely useless patch and I have to click the presets what for a few seconds (presumably a licence check), hit back on those wack lofi patches and dial all the way to the bottom.

So yeah, I want 3.0 because I expect Akai to overhaul their file system, library, content management (and frankly, I could also do with a better look of the OS).

None of that will happen.

how long did it take to do stems on a whole song? and is the ram and process specs of the prime lesser then the mpc?

once you loaded up the song, it took the machine about a minute to have it ready.

i think the prime4 has a different processor than the mpc but thats speculation. it has the same screen as the mpcx and the UI is so reminiscent of the mpc.

same daughterboards (3288), actually you can run all of the softwares interchangeably on numarks, primes, mpcs and force.
