Does anybody use a specific vocal microphone with their MPC? Ideally, it would plug right into one of the 1/4" inputs and provide a good vocal signal at the right level.

I have an SM-58, using an XLR cable with a impedance transformer to 1/4", but the level seems a bit low.

If your SM58 is an original, non-fake device, it deserves the best preamp you can afford :smoker:
(it‘s only cheap because it literally sells in million quantities)
The most affordable „quality“ mic preamp is the Audient ID4 interface. The ID preamp is exactly the same as in their 5-fig console or 19“ rack units.

I have no reason to think my SM58 is counterfeit. Thanks for the interface suggestion, it appears I'm going the preamp route!

2 options, get a usb audio interface with XLR inputs that works with MPC

OR

Get a powered mic, like one of those Lav mics that has a built in preamp, they usually have a button cell battery in them. Those output a line level signal and could be plugged into the MPC inputs with just a 1/4 to 1/8 trs adapter cable or what have you.
