Hey all.
I've been cruising along for months now just saving project each time, but I now have a new project into which I want to load a sequence (with tracks, programs and samples) from the previous project. I notice that none of my sequences show up in the Load screen. Clearly when you save project it is also saving the seq/track/program/samples/audio tracks, because they play fine when I load that project.

So two questions:

1. Why are they not individually available to load?
2. What do i have to do to make them individually available?

Thanks.
By the way, I played that gig I was preparing for in January and it went great. Thanks for all your help!

There’s an option in the settings once you’re in the browser page - the little gear icon top right of the screen I think (not at the MPC right now) to show/hide project folders; when you’ve selected that you can go into the folder (same name/location as the specific project) and all the samples, sequences, programs etc will be there).

The Project file saves the whole project as 1 file with a folder with sample. You'll have to unhide it to see it in the browser settings by clicking on the cog wheel icon.

To save individual tracks & programs just press Save & select the appropriate option like Track or Program. You'll be given the opportunity to name it & select where you want to save it. You can also create a new folder to keep it all nice & neat if you have many individual files.

I hope that was helpful.

It was, thanks.
I am able to see the programs and samples now.
For the record: The issue was that the Save screen makes no sense. LOL.
(See image below) Why does it say "All Samples" but not "All Programs" and "All Sequences"? I didn't realize you had to choose each one (programs and sequences) and save them individually. Bad UI design.
And of course this is not in the manual. Ugh. Akai ensured that we'd all just have head-scratching moments several times a day until we finally sussed all of it out.

well , because that isn't the "save" screen? it's just the Project screen? and didn't we just establish that all you have to do is save the whole project, then all programs/sequences are in the Project_Data folder?

i mean sure, if you really want to organize and sort all your programs and sequences from all your projects... doing it directly on the unit is quite tedious.. just plug the SD into a computer and do real file management there..

I appreciate the help, and I know I must be missing something obvious, but I think when you say "Save" screen you mean "Save As" screen. And in the Save As screen there is no choice to save anything but the Project. What am I missing?

To be clear, I saved an entire project with lots of sequences, programs and samples. I load a new project and in the browse tab I can't see the individual sequences from the other project. I am tapping Browse, then Content, then My Files, then double-tapping the Sequences folder. Nothing in there. Nothing in the other folders except for Projects. So what am I doing wrong here? This should be simple.

maybe you missed, the very first reply you got in this thread? in the Browser Settings (the cog wheel upper right), you need to un-check "Hide project data folders"

then you need to pick any one of the file-filter icons in the top row that is NOT the Project icon. (because the [ProjectData] folders don't have "project" (.xpj) files in them)

all those folders in "my data" (sequences, programs, etc) are just default folders for if you want to save individual items. You need to go to where you saved the Project to see the actual [projectdata] folders

Thanks, Xantus.
Yeah, it was the third reply actually. The cog wheel page confused me because they all say "Show" except the last one.

Yes, I can now see the project data folders which have all the files. But...

The file system is a complete mess.
-All my sequences are just numbered ("1.sxq", etc.) instead of showing the names.
-When I try to load a seq, if it used an audio track, I have to load that first.
-When I do both of those things, the seq does not have any programs assigned to the tracks.

So my questions now are,

-what do I load in order to just load a single sequence with the audio track and all programs assigned?
(I do not want to load all sequences and samples because then I'd have to go through and delete half of them.)

-And why on earth is this so absurdly arcane? A massively successful company like Akai can't program a usable file system?

Thanks for your assistance.

someone else may have a better answer... to be honest, i've only really used the projectdata folders to grab programs and keygroups.. because the browser and file system is indeed, absurdly arcane.

Thanks for letting me know it's not just me, Xantus.

Anyone else- I just want to be able to load a sequence with all associated files (audio track, programs, samples, etc) without loading each element one at a time. Please tell me if this is possible. Thanks.

There’s no 1 file type for load in of sounds + programs to a single sequence.

XPJ, the project file, encompasses everything that was loaded in at the time last saved.

Why would you not want to load the entire song with all sequences etc? :hmmm:

Just save the entire project the way you want to be able to pull it up. Load everything up, delete what you don’t want and save the project
By B-Wise Mon Feb 26, 2024 8:58 am
The Project file is there to save everything quickly as 1 file, so you don't have to save everything 1 by 1, that would really suck. With that convenience you lose the flexibility of moving all those other files as single files, until you decide to save them as an separate file that get saved along with the Project file that I hope you saved in a new folder.

So make a new folder save the Project & whatever else you want. Keep in mind when you save the Project file any separate file won't be updated unless you save over it. The filing system is kinda deep & efficient once you understand everything that's going on. Still room for improvement, but at first, well its like :WTF:

I'll take Akai’s system over the SP-505 & most devices I own all day. I recommend you RTM & I'm sure someone made a video on YouTube so check there if you haven't. Also make project templates that has settings set up the way like to save time. Peace.

i think you guys are missing the point... that.. if someone wants to just import some sequences from another project... that it's... incredibly tedious and archaic that the only way seems to be... load the original project and pare down everything that is not involved in those specific sequences ... and then . what.. save that as a new project? so you can only start from something totally fresh?

what if you want to combine ideas from multiple projects into one?? you can't load a project into an already existing project... so like, that's the point. it seems to be completely mental.
