if u dont like nobody is forcing u to use it but this is the holy grail for sample heads

perhaps for SOME sample heads, maybe even the majority of sample heads. not ALL sample heads tho. its a really useful feature that still not everyone wants for a plethora of reasons.

again, if u dont want it dont use it;

but why are u dubious about the feature being available to those that want it?

very odd mindset its as if ur saying "i dont like this feature, so I dont want anyone to have this feature"

very haterish imo

In a more moderate view: development resources are sparse, there may be more important things to focus on... :hmmm:
Of course I know „these things“ won‘t bring the buzz and cash

But if you were a true sample head, you'd already be using it in a form like StemRoller or a website, like https://studio.gaudiolab.io/ (I really wish MPC did a 6 way stem instead of the 4 that they are implementing) , then this software update, just makes thing convenient, as you can use it in the box. But those who are into stems have been using them for quite some time now.

what is a "true sample head"? i been sampling since the sk1 came out. i never have used stems nor have i had a need to have a reason to purchase software or whatever to get stems. i get there are different generations of beat makers on this forum, but im 51 years old and i grew up not using computers so i get along just fine without stems or FL or DAWs. just like the s2400 -- all these young cats want that machine to do everything, and all I want it for is that sp12 sound! that is the only reason i bought it and after having it all these years i still haven't used it, because its so damn complicated with all the menu diving and extra nonsense (hd sound? bro i want sp12 sound!!)

i see stems as something cool -- its another way to be creative, and when inmusic finally release it, im sure ill use it in some way or another -- im just not going to go out of my way to get it nor am i going to sweat over it like some of the commenters here are doing.

and these same commenters will be the first ones to complain about it once its released... :Sigh:

what specific features would u have them focus on?

some people prefer to have the feature in the box for workflow purposes

2400 is not especially complicated at all; if u sit with it for a weekend u will relaise how simple it is; its a modern take on 1200.

so u have the option to have 12 bit or 16 bit, and thats welcome to have modern features and still have access to the classic sound and wrokflow, that siad i hardly have used it either, lol the mpc live is just to comfortable to use.

but i am awaiting the filter card release

Yeah I think I'm in exactly the same boat as you. I don't think I would use the feature a lot but it would be really handy sometimes. Eg I'm making a 'hobby' EDM track at the moment, using vocal samples from the film 'Sexy Beast' (just cos I love Ben Kingsleys character in it) but one of the sections has some backing music drone that I'd really like to try and negate, and no amount of my limited experience with EQ/filtering is helping it. I think Stems would really help. Oh well, thankfully I'm not about to try and market it!

The SP12 sound was less about the bit depth, which mainly determines the max headroom level & came more from the limited sample rate as well as what funkyness the converters may added to the sample.

Lower bit means it'll be easier for sounds to distort when sampling into it, but it ain't that much different between 12 bit with a dynamic range of 72db & 16 bit going up to 96db before it starts to get crunchy. 24 bit (144db) it's more difficult to get that crunch, but luckily Akai added a Amp gain feature in the sample editor which can boost a normalized sample Amp level up 18db & since it's a destructive process you can run your sample thru it again & again until you get the crunch you want.

New MPCs takes more work than a SP to get a dirty sound, but it offers a wider sonic range, especially when you include the other sound shaping tools available like the many different filters & the Drum FX specifically the bit-crush & deciminator. Most seem to sleep on the filters & Drum FXs - don't be one of those people! The SP & old samplers didn't have all these tools so what sound it had or imprinted on samples you & everyone else was limited to that 1 signature sound, maybe that gave people a sense of unity or something by being able to achieve the same sound as their favorite producer.

In a way, older sample-heads are spoiled because the vintage boxes sounded a certain way from the jump, no experience needed, just sample into the box & maybe speed up the source & BAM! These are the ones mainly complaining about the new MPCs being too clean. They are cleaner from the start, which isn't a bad thing. The tools provided if use properly or in some cases intentionally improperly like Warp, can get sonically nasty in a good way, in ways a SP never could. Nostalgia is one powerful drug. :smoker:
