Pitch bending programs on MPC One

Hey all. I found a few threads about pitch bend and it looks like somehow it doesn't exist on the MPC One. Is this still true? Was there a firmwareupdate at some point that added it maybe?

I am able to control pitch bend with an external midi keyboard, but I'm traveling and can't bring a keyboard with me. I was hoping you could remap the XY controller to pitch bend but I don't see anything but the handful of effects they have.

I know I could sorta do this with the Q Link knobs and course tune but you can't set limits with that. I want to be able to push it to the top of the parameter and know if will be 2 octaves higher and the low param 2 octaves lower.

Any thoughts? I guess I could borrow a midi keyboard from someone at the gig.

Not (never been) possible without a pitch wheel, as you say, controlling tune within qlinks would be challenging!

Do that.
Set limits within the synth you're using.
In q-link edit use TEMPORARY. Letting the q-link go won't be smooth, it will snap back to zero or whatever it was when you initiated TEMPORARY.

Not a traditional pitch bend but I've done this several times and it's worked for me, not perfectly, but, try anyway.

Oh shit. I did not know you could do that in q-link edit (temporary) lol.

In MPC 3 Beta, there is a Q-Link MIDI category where one of the q-link knobs is already assigned to the pitch bend. It works exactly as expected.

I’ve been hoping to find a way to pitchbend drum programs for a long time (like I used to do on my MPC1000). Any ideas for that?

Can't you assign the program global tuning to a macro & edit the range to like 2 octaves?

I tried mapping the Q-link to semi tune, but that results in a "stepping" pitch bend – I am looking for a smooth one like on the MPC1000.

Using the AIR Pitch Shifter is smoother, but then you also get the artifacts that comes with the pitch shifter effect (and that you avoid when changing the playrate).

I found a hacky solution that works, but is quite tedious to set up:

- Make a Keygroup (let's call it "Keygroup 001") instead of a Drum program. Each sample needs to be its own keygroup set up to only play for on specific key (so it only plays for on pad
- In the mod matrix window for the keygroup set it with Mod Wheel as Source and Layer 1 Tune as source
- Set the track to receive MIDI on channel 1 and Midi Monitor to "In
- Create a new MIDI track, with these MIDI settings: MIDI Output Port: MPC, MIDI Output Channel: 1, MIDI Send: "Keygroup 001".
- Set your Q-Link in "Project Mode" and set a Q-link to control "Modulation" on the MIDI track.
- Done


This way when you turn the Q-link Mod Wheel MIDI is set on the MIDI track which then passes on the MIDI to the Keygroup track where the pitch/tune is affected (without being steppy). Ridiculous setup, but at least it solves my problem of having to replicate my MPC1000 setup

If you assign a Q-Link to the Depth parameter of the Pitch Env page in a drum program, you can control the pad's pitch. It seems there are 1200 steps of resolution for 12 semitones.

Not sure what you mean with "with the Q-Link it’s only about 34 steps". Is that when assigning with the Q-link menu instead of the program menu?

If you go to QLINK EDIT > PAD SCENE you can use Q12 to tune the currently selected pad, this is not stepped as it is effectively a combination of semi and fine in a single parameter

Alternatively manually configure a macro on any 'Track' Qlink to target that same 'Tuning' parameter; it's different to the 'SEMI' and 'FINE' options - it's the first option in the 'Edit' sub menu

Sorry, I was wrong. The Q-Link can assign its -100 to 100 range to the Depth parameter’s -3600 to 3600 range (36 semitones), so for 12 semitones it maps to -33 to 33. After testing, I found that it’s not actually 33 discrete steps but changes smoothly, so I’ve updated my post.
