Mpc stems out now

Installed and all is well until I actually press CREATE STEMS > DO IT
But then I get " Unable to initialise stems system"

Any ideas why this would occur?

Same here when I try to actually use the mode. Unable to initialize stems.

I'm experiencing the same thing. Haven't figured it out yet.

I figured (on Mac) make sure open with Rosetta is click off and then reopen the app. It’ll work.

Following my previous post, I have now managed to download it and activate on the MPC2 on Pc, but have not had time to do anything further.

I may just wait until the weekend.

I’m going on the assumption it is processing power that is holding this back from a being a standalone plugin. Not sure I see the benefit of plugging my MPC into my laptop every time I need a stem. I may as well use FL or Virtual DJ and export it to a usb. I guess for £10 it’s a nice to have.

I get mixed results after various tests. Especially snares / guitars / vox clash and the results sound occasionally very poor. It‘s okay though, as long as you are able to mask the sonical problems and imperfections occurring.

But with Rosetta switched off, my theRiser plugin won't work.. If Air/ Akai updates all plugins to be M1/M2 compatible, all will work better.

I find it very odd that they haven't implemented solo and mutes for layers, recordable as automation. Just seems like such an obvious thing to have as people will often want to quickly drop stems in an out, and the level dial doesn't cut it for that.

They should also be looking at implementing layer based FX, envelopes, filters, lfo etc, this would work well for stems (as well as for drum layering etc).

You can clearly hear artifacts in the non-specifically-curated example above, and you know as well as I do that the material you use will absolutely determine the quality of the stem separation, artifacts and otherwise. So please, just stop. It's disingenuous and has become tedious and irritating, seriously man. And I say that as Akai's biggest fanboy.

Re: standalone processing power

According to the internet, stem separation works standalone in Denon Prime 4+, which has the same CPU/GPU thing as your MPCs.

My general finding is that given the right source material, it's pretty good. But it should be, it's just using the same, long existing tech as as bunch of other applications. It does struggle on really old stuff, e.g. old 20's public domain recordings and as there's no way to tweak or edit the resulting separations it ultimately does not compare to dedicated apps like RipX. But yes, when the source material is optimal it is very usable.

Clearly all their promo vids are using 'optimal' examples (understandable).

I do however feel that until it's actually available directly in standalone it's not really the big deal Akai are making it out to be. Again, there's no editing or tweaking, you get what you get and the MPC specific features are currently minimal. If working in a computer, stemming direct to pads is not much different to just dragging 4 stem files from another stem app directly to the layers, it's hardly any kind of time saver (would be in standalone).

However, if you add slice regions to the source the resulting stems adopt all the slice regions, so this is definitely a more unique MPC implementation, but I would like to see the option to automatically create 4 separate, fully chopped programs (one for each stem). And also the option to create a single fully chopped program containing all 4 stems. All can be done manually of course, but seems like a missed opportunity to not have this as part of the processing screen.
