Hi,

It’s an examination question. I’m curious to see whether someone has experience with setting up one of the newer Kurzweil models together with a MPC Live or X? I would like to know how easy this is to setup where you can record the output from the Kurzweil into the MPC. How user friendly is it? I’ve been using the MODX together with MPC Live and it was a disaster. Currently have the Roland Fantom 0 and it’s really easy to set this up, however I’m not really happy with the acoustic piano sound… Knowing that Kurzweil did announced it’s newer series K2088 this could be a board of my interest. Hopefully someone can tune in and share their experiences with Kurzweil and MPC (I couldn’t find much information about this on the internet) Thanks!

Thanks appreciate the answer! I’m still doing research on which keyboard/workstation to buy to combine with my MPC. Perhaps it make sense to wait a little bit longer… it’s pretty challenging to make a decision!

Make sure you're ok with the K2700's UI.
It's nowhere near as nice/convenient/intuitive as the Fantom, Montage, etc.
Lots of menu diving.
The software editor is one of the worst I've ever used... so you won't get much relief there.

Also, if you're planning on programming your own analog mono type sounds (that use Portamento):
The Portamento is not smooth like you'd expect with a Moog or other analog synth.
It's hard to put into words... but it just sounds awkward/wrong.

I've owned the K2700 twice.
Tried to live with the UI the second time.
Programming something simple like a two/three oscillator MiniMoog type sound takes far more effort than on many other keyboards.
Getting your own samples into the unit is also a pain (compared to Montage/M, Fantom, Nord Stage, etc).

No trying to rain on your parade... just know what you're getting into.
IMO, Kurzweil really should redo the UI and VAST... to bring it more in line with what's available in 2024.
