Why is there no clip recording on MPC Live?

I'm mystified by this. There's a great quantised clip playback tool. For playback it works just like Ableton/Force/Push/LoopyPro. But recording things into those clip pads on the MPC is needlessly and mind bogglingly cumbersome. You have to record them elsewhere, for example in looper, then take a copy and send to the clip pad. Why? Quantised clip record is such an obvious thing to have. They have it on Force. It would make the mpc so much better and faster as an ideas capture station. I'm mystified.

Because AKAI want you to buy a Force on top of your MPC, you wouldn't if the MPC had the same functions.

As a consequence of this I'm not having the mpc live and playing with a push3s to see if that's better. Clever old akai.

I have both the Force and MPC-X, but I actually prefer the workflow of working with loops on the MPC-X without even touching clips. The trick is you work with the Looper and export to a pad on a drum track which is set to trigger once at the start of your sequence. You get quantized loop record with this and quantized playback. Once I got into the flow with this style it opened up a lot of possibilities. You can tear through a lot of quantized recordings quickly, and don't forget you can insert effects into the looper as well so they're printed to the recorded audio.

The Force kinda can do the same thing but there's an extra step since it exports to clips from Looper. I find recording to Force clips more limiting than MPC's Looper export to pad personally.

Both machines suffer from the same issues though - the looper is basic and doesn't do automatic crossfades at zero crossings so you get a lot of clicks, and the MPC/Force has to be master clock unless you use MTC sync.

Oh - so that's why... MPC cannot record audio when synced as a MIDI slave. I had been tearing my hair out for days. Thanks ! Tonight's fun: rewiring the MIDI octopus with the MPC as master...

Yeah I saw a video about that. Too much effort. If the mpc had clip recordingn it'd be great but I've been enjoying trying push 3 standalone over the last two hours. It's pretty great. Less fighting the machine to do the basics with clips.

It's funny btw, side by side mpclive2 and p3s are fairly similar in size, much closer than I expected, but the p3s is definitely a more annoying physical shape. The mpc is a real near miss imv by not having clip recording. Seems mad to not have it on their keyboard models, those especially would be killer with it.
