The Best Needle and Cartridge for Sampling Vinyl

Can anyone tell me the best needle and cartridge to buy for sampling vinyl. The turntable I use is Technique SL-1700

I bought a bunch of ortofon concorde (like 2 capsules and 10 needles for 150$)back in the day from a music store that was closing and have nice results with them. I know is not the most hifi but is doing the work just fine. Still have spare

I second the Ortofon mention. I like Ortofon Concorde carts and styli quite a lot. They're durable and replacement styli are plentiful.

Ortofon stylus are top notch, affordable, and just sound fantastic. In particular, the Ortofon 2M Blue or Red are amazeballs for the price. And a matching head shell doesn't hurt either:

Ultimately if clarity is your thing sampling from vinyl isnt the place to start, records have a dynamic range of about 70db. Which means weak signal plus the distortion from record rot, dust, scratches etc... the deck you play your records on matters too.. quartzlock keeps your deck rotating at the proper RPM as voltage at the wall fluctuates, solid body or foam insullated so they dont resonate as the external sounds of your home or speakers pass back through the deck. If you can tap on the deck and hear DONG DONG its a piece o crap. unload it.

Dudes didnt start sampling from records cus they were the best media, they used them because they were once in abundance and the cheapest form of media to acquire new sounds from. The whole "sample from vinyl for grit" mentality is a rather newish boombapster mindset picked up from god knows where... it's not a requirement its a trend. Originally formulating songs playing doubles which is ultimately what these people are trying to emulate with "chops" or slices but if you take note there is ZERO tablism in their work which is a a fundemental hip hop element especially with doubles...

Some folks swear by records like adds some artistic value but it's really just a layer of noise you can add with various modern filters if you want it to sound shitty and miss frequency and click and pop.

Buy the cd, sample that if you dont intend to bang it out on the decks proper and capture it. Waste of money and time otherwise just to half-assedly fake it.
