Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

I'm losing my mind a little.

I have 2 x 2000XL and I'm trying to use one to expand the other and give me drum programs I can work with.

I've setup the master 2000XL to send MIDI CLOCK and the slave to receive MIDI CLOCK. Also setup two MIDI programs to transmit on 1A and 2A. I've also set Pgm to 1 and 2 for both tracks on the master. The slave is also set to receive all midi channels and drum1 and drum 2 are set to receive program changes.

I've tried just about every combination of settings and I can't get track 1 to trigger drum 1 and track 2 to trigger drum 2.

Am I missing something obvious? Surely the 2000XL should be able to trigger separate drum programs of a second 2000XL? The only way I can get the master to trigger drum 2 on the slave is if I've changed the slave to have track 2 selected.

Thanks in advance

OK, quick update.

I've worked out how to change program in one track. I was hoping I could setup four tracks on the master to trigger all four drum programs on the slave.

At the moment, I've setup two tracks transmitting on 1A and 2A. I've set them as MIDI and changed the Pgm: field to 1 and 2 respectively. It only picks up the change on track two though and both tracks always trigger the same program.

Has anyone else cracked this nut?

I wouldn‘t expect your result, regardless if the receiver is a MPC or any other sampler. :hmmm:
Suggestion:
set the slave to record the midi events from the master and then inspect the event list.
In a more detailed approach you may save both source and destination files, do a binary file compare for differences if there’s too much data that hits the eye...

Really? It's pretty easy to do this with rack samplers and synthesizers where each MIDI channel controls a different instrument. It's strange that the 2000XL can't seem to do it.

I just like the way the MPC chops samples so was hoping to expand my setup for more programs. As a workaround I can just sync time code and record sequences into each but I was hoping to just have one of them saving sequence data.

Thanks

Yes, that‘s why I wrote the MPC should perform as any other unit...
Obviously something gets missed (or messed) on the midi stream.
I‘d just check out the raw data in that case (as written above) because I‘m curious.
