Absolutely right
A real bass offers so much more expression, in particular damping and muting notes... which is essential, but very hard to translate to samplers.
I‘m a big fan of the classic p-bass type (split coil pickup, 1 volume, 1 tone), the most simple but extremely versatile bass.
While one can spend a fortune on vintage instruments, there‘s no need to: just check some modern cheapos. They vary a lot, even the exact same model.
Don‘t pay much attention to „sound“, but to the reaction of the bass, how it resonates, that‘s where it‘s at, similar to an 808 with long decay...
