Huge Update Leap

Sooo, I just updated from a macbook pro 2015 running MPC software 1.97 to a new macbook pro m3. I used migration assistant to bring everything over to the new cpu but (not surprisingly) my MPC software won’t even open. I have all my projects in their respective folders etc but can’t even get the program to open up, even with Rosetta. Anyone with suggestions on how to update to the latest software so I can access my projects? I know 2.0 was a paid upgrade and I’m fine with paying, but I just don’t even know where to start with the process


Another option (?): I do have a separate purchased version of the MPC software (2.10 I believe, came with an X) on a different computer, and I don’t need it on that computer. Is there a way I could transfer that 2.10 version of the software to this new macbook pro m3? Then I could open up all my old projects through that software? If that’s possible, how would I go about doing that?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The mpc software 2 licence is valid for 2 computers, just set up ilok, log in and activate on the new computer. Download and install mpc 2.14 and you should be fine. Your 1.9 projects should load without any issue

One more question- I want to use my MPC Studio Black (the older one, with the screen) to control this new software and it won't let me because its saying the driver is out of date. Where can I DL this latest driver for the Studio Black? I am searching all around and not seeing it anywhere. Thanks a lot!

The driver for Studio Black is probably included in the MPC2 Software installer (version 2.11.5 or newer).

Excuse my ignorance, but I chose the X as the unit I will be using when I installed the 2.14 software on this computer (because the X is what I will be using primarily). Is there any way for me to switch my choice to the studio black instead?

I don’t know what you call that screen or that part of the installation process, where they ask you what type of unit you will be using with the software, but that’s what I’m referring to. Is there any way to change that choice? Or choose more than one type of unit to be used with the software? Again, please excuse my ignorance. Thanks

You can run the installer again and choose mpc studio, you have the option to just install drivers and leave the mpc software untouched. You can install as many drivers as you need (I have several models installed).

Not sure if the studio is supported in the latest macOS though.

The Studio Black is compatible with Ventura, but not with Sonoma.

Thanks. I'd like to try installing the latest driver just so I can try and get it to work on OS 14, even if it would only work in midi mode or something. Can someone please provide me a specific link and specific instructions on how to install the latest driver for MPC Studio Black. I'm sorry but I can't figure this out on my own- I keep hitting dead ends. Thanks

I suppose I’ll go find a used version of the more recent mpc studio- the crappy one with no screen. To no one’s surprise, there are 4 pages of those units available in the used gear section of Guitar Center’s website

If you need the tactile buttons similar to the Studio Black you are better off getting a used MPC One.

They do drop to the $400 range used for the black model .

Thanks. Yeah I considered the One but that needs to be plugged in and I’m looking for maximum portability/convenience (while still working off my laptop)

There's definitely still a hole in the current line up as the Studio 2 makes for a poor hardware experience. People like the thin, lightweight form factor with no PSU requirement, but it needs tight hands-on hardware integration and a great screen UI, i.e. just like the Studio 1, which gave the 'virtual standalone' experience.

Lack of Qlinks is a bizarre omission - I'd even go as far as to suggest the mk 3 has 16 qlinks even if it means no screen at all, just want all the physical controls there in front of me - pads, buttons, Qlinks, dials, transport etc, I don't mind then having to use the software for all the other stuff.

Ok I spoke too soon! I WAS able to get my Studio Black to work in 2.14, in midi mode! I'm so pumped!

Which brings me to another question....is midi mode inferior in any way? I've loaded a couple different existing projects as tests and everything seems to be pretty much in tact. Samples, chops, sequences, all there. The only real difference I can see is these audio tracks are now called MIDI tracks.

Does working in MIDI mode change anything when it comes to dragging in audio/samples, manipulating/chopping samples, exporting stems, or anything at all? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
