I got this mpc 60 and I think the timing correct is fake. The mpc has a ppqn of 96 but it's saying 95 for the last pulse. The first pulse is 01.01.00 on the clock and the last is 02.04.95 which is 96 ppqn. If I turn on 1/8th shouldn't the second 8th note be on pulse 47 because of pulse 00? The clock says pulse 48 which is 50% of 96 but if it starts at 01.01.00 wouldn't pulse 48 be 49 which is not 50% if it ends at 95?

0-95 is 96 distinct values.

EDIT: reread your post...

so ppqn is parts per quarter note. If you're quantizing to 1/4, then all notes would be on x.y.0.

an eighth note would be half of 96, or 48, and due to the number, ought to be 47.

So quantizing to a 1/8 note I would expect all notes to land on x.y.0 and x.y.47... don't have an MPC 60 here to mess with though, so I could be wrong.

Thats what I'm saying. It sounds like there is a imperfection quantized at at 1/8th at 50% swing. Its supposed to be 50% of 96 which is the ppqn.

A note is 01.01.00 - 01.04.95.

PPQN, parts per QUARTER note.

Quarter note is 01.01.00 - 01.01.95, the “96 ticks” is there.

Try again

I'm not saying it's not 96 ticks. I'm saying that at 50% swing at 1/8th the second 8th note should be on tick 47 instead of 48 because of tick 00 and tick 95. If its on tick 48 it's really tick 49 because of tick 00 which is 51% swing. All I'm wondering is if anyone else has this on their mpc.

The second 8th starts on tick 48 which is really 49. If it was a tick earlier then the first 8th would be a tick too short to be a full 8th.
8ths at 50 % swing is really 48 + 48.
The first 48 are ticks 0 to 47 and the second 48 are ticks 48 to 95. That's an even 50/50 split hence the mpc calling it 50%.

Oh yeah your right I got it thanks. But my timing still correct doesn't sound like its working correctly so you think there could be something wrong with the machine?

Can you describe the imperfection you are hearing or post a clip please ?
It's hard to say if something is wrong without more info. Going by your previous descriptions everything is working as it should and you've miscalculated where the first 8th ends and the second 8th starts..

Here is a table showing the number of ticks for note lengths at 96ppq. I used to have it printed out and kept beside my mpc but it doesn't take long to memorize.
Image

dotted 128ths aren't possible at 96ppq because it would be 4.5 ticks and you can't have events in between ticks.

Note repeat sounds really off timing at 1/8th. I found out it was only out certain head phones

How can timing be off only in a certain headphone?

That's why it's amazing.

Like the thread where dude thought he got hacked as all his samples got replaced with other samples.
