Hi, I have some AKAI CD libraries that are in native S5000/S6000 and Z4/Z8 format. Can I load them into MPC Key 61? If yes, how do I do it so that I can use them in standalone mode as well? Thanks!

Hi MPC-Tutor and thanks for a response! So both S5000/S6000 and Z4/Z8 formats are exactly the same type of AKP format and both load fine? And, basic stuff like sample key mapping, velocity switch samples and sample loop points are loaded/converted correctly? I also assume multis cannot be loaded/converted, only programs right? And, after loading, is it possible to convert AKP programs tor MPC format programs so I can save the programs and use them on MPC Key 61 in standalone mode? Thanks!

If it's .AKP then the program should load with all key mapping, sample loops etc. I seem to remember that envelopes were not imported properly, and stuff like filters and LFO will not transfer as the MPC is no longer like for like in those features. Once loaded into the MPC it's no longer seen as an AKP - save the project and the program is saved in XPM format.

Great, thanks! Just wonder, key mapping, velocity switch samples and sample loops are also correctly converted for AKP instrument keygroup programs as well or it works for AKP drum programs only? I also wonder what happens if AKP keygroup program has more than 4 velocity switch samples per key, do you know? Thanks!

I havent tested extensively, but I was importing keygroup programs, but almost certainly will also handle akp drum programs. The thing is the support for AKP is identical across all units so it doesn't matter which model you buy, the AKP import is the same. If it doesn't convert well you can always try third party apps like Translator or Awave.

BTW I was testing in the MPC Software, but I think standalone import is the same. I haven't tested this for many years, but no reason to think it has changed in any way.

Thanks man! Any plans already for clean/DI electric guitar library for MPCs?

FYI, I seem to be in a minority but I’ve found projects with AKP loaded from legacy machines (4K - which is the same engine as the Z8 - and 1K) tend to crash. Can’t tell whether it’s the programs or the sequences…

I had some 'odd' experiences trying to import those like MPC-Tutor, but this was 3-4 years ago now that I was doing that. I was also using the older Translator 6 to convert AKAI cd's to AKP's as well so that may have had a lot to do with it. Key mapping came through fine, but like Tutor said, no filters, no modulation stuff, and the evelopes and panning were totally ****. Envelopes came through completely closed up, and most of the patches were panned all the way to the left. Once they were 'fixed' they seemed to be ok, but I gave up on the Akai CD's with the MPC, it was too much work when my EMU and Halion could import them perfectly from the start. I actually gave in and bought Translator 7 last time it was on sale, but I haven't tried it out to see if its any better, I haven't even turned my MPC Live on in almost 2 years now aside from updating the firmware (and somehow I completely missed 2.13 and just found out 2.14 was out heh).
