Occasionally I find that, for whatever reason, I have doubled notes or drum hits. Usually I can clean these up fairly easily in the list editor, but today I have discovered that, in the project I am working on, about 30 bars of my drum track has multiple hits (doubled, or in one case 7 hits!) This is a royal pain to clean up. What I am doing is that I have exploded the drum track, and now I am going through each track with the list editor and deleting the duplicates. Man. Wot a pain. I expect this will take about an hour.

Does anyone know of a better method? I am doing this standalone; would the software make this easier?

Finger drum better so you don’t deal with this in the first place.

Ie. Is it you or the pads causing double hits?

GRID EDIT will let you grab multiples and delete them at once.

Sometimes hits just land on top of each other on the same track/sequence. It's annoying when this happens because the MPC has no idea what to do and will not let you delete any of the notes in question. Highlighting all/deleting does nothing, list edit does nothing.

The way I usually fix it is save the project, reopen, go to the notes you want to re-enter, and zoom in as much as you can. You *might* see that one note is juuuuust a hair longer than the other. Try your best to highlight the edge of that bad note (not both) and delete. If you mess up, it doesn't know what to do again, and you'll have to reopen.

It's a bug that's been with the MPC since Live's launch. F'ing annoying as all heel.

Dealing with root cause of an problem is the best way of preventing future issues.

You may want to adjust your pad pressure so that it doesn't trigger with light pressure. But ultimately, working on your drumming form & technique will be best.

I have this problem maybe once a week with heavy use on X or Keys61 standalone.

When it happens it’s maybe a note or two, not many, not hard to fix, not annoying.

When it happens I know it’s me and how I’m hitting the pads.

Then it's either not the same issue, or you don't mind powering down/up, zooming in, and deleting the note very carefully whenever it happens. :-D This also happens when using external controllers for note entry or when running sequencers into the MPC for recording, so It goes a little deeper than finger drumming form.

Yeah, you'd think, but in some cases it's too late for that. Hence the question.

In this particular case, it seems to be an artifact introduced by some copy/paste operations.

I don't remember what off hand has caused this myself... though I believe copy/paste and the retrospective record to be culprits. I think I caused this once or twice with nudge or transpose as well. I might have even edged into this with change a notes start/end points. It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure one of those has caused this for me in the past.

For those that haven't seen this happen, I don't think it is a double trigger that gets you there, as the MPC is usually pretty good about replacing a note that starts at the same time. Instead, what you see is that a short note is stacked on top of a longer note on the grid view. What seems to happen is that the MPC will effectively trigger both at the same time, so the note starts to play, but then it takes the first note off event. You may think "why not just delete the short note", and I can tell you, sometimes they are razor thin. So as Jamos explains, lots of zooming in and out, and if you've got a long sequence, it can be time consuming to manage.

I haven't hit this enough times to remotely know how to reproduce it, but can confirm that it can be "a thing".

Personally, when I have hit it... it's been a cross between zooming around and editing by hand (a pain), going to list view to remove notes by hand (another pain), using undo/redo to try and get rid of the operation that caused the problem in the first place if I catch it soon enough, and rerecording the notes.

Unfortunately, I don't really have any good advice for you here, and can just say I understand the pain/frustration...

I've never had it happen to me, but I've read about others that did have this problem. In some cases, the cause of the problem was an angled stand.

Quotes from Reddit...
If your MPC is on some sort of angled stand, try laying it flat on a table and see if you still have the issue, I have noticed that off-axis pad taps sometimes don't register the same way as a flat tap.

I can confirm that this seems to be the cause for double triggering on my MPC One. I use it on an angled laptop stand and it tends to double trigger. When I placed it on a flat surface I noticed that it didn't double trigger anymore.
