Roger Linn tries an MPC Live !!!

Yes, good for him to finally get what he is owned (if indeed this is what happened). But considering how public he was about the legal issues and that personal name-calling attack on O-Donnell, it seems really odd that he's not felt compelled to explain how he's come full circle on this, especially when it's all accompanied by a very positive promo vid for inMusic's current MPCs.

I just can't imagine doing a video like this without at least starting it with some corporate waffle to at least give some veil of transparency, e.g.:

'I guess you are aware of my ongoing legal issues with inMusic... well I'm glad to say we've had constructive talks and have come to an agreement that we're all happy with. Onwards and upwards!"

James Ting was the guy that stopped his royalty checks.. all Jack O'Donnell did was never reinstated the royalties after he took over. The argument James Ting had was that he was getting royalties over the software and the changed it enough to look like it was their own work.. so while it might not have been the best decision that Jack made, her had no legal responsibilities, he just bought a company.

My great grandmother last name was Snyder and she created the company you see today as Snyder pretzels but my great uncle sold Snyder potato chips to a big conglomerate that turned it into a pretzel company.. it was my families company and the IRS ended up taking all the money from us because she didn't leave a will.. you think I can just go to the current company and demand royalties because my uncle went behind everybody's back and sold everything basically screwing most of my family? That's just not how it works and hopefully Roger can get some new money from new deals since he did create the thing.

Roger Linn fanbois are hurt right now; as they had the narrative that the current mpc's are trash becos Linn is not involved; but this has now been rubbished by the creator of the orginal MPC.

World peace and all, so what's next, JJOS? MPC 3.0 even?? Fixing the multi-channel note-off bug, and maybe make the keygroup sampler up to par for creating 3rd party sample content?! If it could remember its mod wheel to pitch LFO setting and do actual mono legato so it could do lead sounds, it would be heaven! We're living exciting times.

Dude, Zero people think this way. Absolutely no one on Earth refused to purchase a Live because Roger had issues with Jack literal decades ago. You know how I know this? Because the only person this affected was Roger, and even *HE* owns a unit now. I also work directly with Linn "fanbois" and they couldn't give any less of a f*ck either way.

Where do you even come up with this stuff? No one ever blamed the failures of the MPC ecosystem on Linn not being there. Shit he hasn't worked for Akai since like 1994 when the 3000 came out, and had nothing to do with the 2000 and onward as it is..

the 2000xl was dope, the 2500 /1000 was cool but the decline BEGAN there.

i aint even mad roger linn is getting the bag finally... he seems like a real nice guy albeit non confrontational. Akai decided to play some chess moves by putting him in their corner after the preview of the UNRELEASED ROGER LYNN INTERVIEW WITH EA-SKI.....gotta wonder why he never released it in its entirety. my bet is that Inmusic reached out to him once the preview surfaced... or was it a chess move by roger?

Interesting stuff that's for sure. Also... It will be interesting to see what Akai's next move is.

Watching this first video makes me desire a LinnStrument. They seem to be pretty expressive.

It's just dawned on me that this could be a preview of the Force II.
Seeing the MPC right next to the LINNstrument seems like a future glimpse into AKAI's version of the PUSH 3 with it's expressive keypad.

Roger does seem obsessed with the multi-key rather than his old 4x4 layout so maybe AKAI asked hime to collaborate on a Force II, or a LINNFORCE

Either way, things are looking very interesting at the moment and I'm very excited to see what (if anything) comes out of this partnership..... or maybe it was just Roger making a video about an MPC, no more, no less!

I can't see any mention of this on Akai's socials, I would have assumed if this was in anyway part of some planned guns-blazing partnership that they would have been immediately virally sharing this video, with their web site already primed and ready to go with 'Legendary father of the MPC Endorses the New MPCs' splashed across the homepage.

I would also suspect they would have rather he showcase one of the very latest releases (key 37, XSE, or even MPC One+).

All in all, I'm still sitting in the 'this is a bit of a strange one' camp.

If one wears a tinfoil hat, he might say that after a three/four months of hiatus, inmusic started to dump fcc fillings again (m-audio, alesis, headrush etc etc…) so it might be a sign of things to come. Also given that the akai point update cycle is paused for a record long time could mean that they shift their development to a next major update. Those are just speculations that are on par with campfire stories and imho Rogers video have absolutely nothing to do with „next best thing” - I could be wrong though, but strangely I don’t care as much as I used to :/

Whatever is going on (if anything) I have a feeling that there is going to be a LOT of specualtion and rumours flying around for the next few months
