the machine is good... he should own one and see what is happening these days if he still wants to make products...

it does what he set out to achieve when he designed his old drum machines 40 years ago... a piece of gear for musicians that don't require an engineer on retainer to use. Read the MPC60 manual that he wrote, it's a treat compared to any other manual I have ever read. There was a lot of thought put behind his main objective with the user experience thing... and in this video, he points out how some of those ideas 30+ years ago are still relevant today.

What are people looking for? for Roger Linn to get caught up in Ski Beats' "the sonics" thing? .... Do people expect a youtuber war between Roger Linn, Ski Beats, and Ave McCree ... Well at least we know Roger will articulate or at least pronounce technical jargon words properly.

I’m amazed at how people read what they want to hear into this. The only thing that is apparent is Linn has spoke to Akai and they are on speaking terms. It would seem likely their issues were resolve amicably.

None of this heralds the Force 2 (Linn didn’t work on Force 1), Future work together, or the apocalypse. It would make sense to get the Godfather in the house but what we saw may be all there is. Maybe, maybe not.

If Linn was made whole, that’s good for him. It hasn’t changed my day to day routine.

I'll be dat. Like doc holiday when ringos lookin for trouble. I" got two guns one for each uh yuh." I kid i kid... no guns... Really though, I don't shy away from pointing out bullsh*t but its not personal. I don't dislike anyone personally. I just dislike certain ideas that "sceners" have. Generally they are the ideas where like folks are all "don't question the will of the akai lords." To hell with that, they damn well know who ultros is now.

Just remember, for as ruthless as i am i am more than willing to help with anything if asked. Don't take anything i say personal, you are a fine person despite our overt arguments.

I had the ministry of labour roll up to our jobsite one day, had an attitude. I gave it back and he asked why i was mad. I replied you want to know? i am glad to tell you, you showed up in your little ontario car with your blue hat and clip board harassing me. I am not signing shit without a lawyer or attourney present." and he left.

Seeing as I started the thread I'll bang my two penneth in.

I'm glad that Roger seems to be in a better place with this, as to what's happened in the background, I'm loathe to speculate as that's all it would be, but happy to take the positives.
As to what he can add further down the line, well I'm not going to surrender to ageism and suggest he has nothing to add, I have a feeling his extensive experience in the field could render a surprise!
If he did decide to join Akai v2 and help create something...great, if he doesn't, we'll always have the classic machines.

Thanks for the millions of shared hours of joy you've helped people achieve Roger. :worthy:

its not about ageism that I say he will have nothing relavent to offer at this stage; it's based on the bizzare and very experimental instruments that he has been working on post akai, none of which have caputred mainstream production interest.

but salute to roger for being creative and following his personal passion, Im just saying that those items dont have the same mass appeal of his earlier works.

Having owned several InMusic MPCs and used them extensively, this video did not make me appreciate the current MPCs more, but made me appreciate Roger Linn less.

The current software is a convoluted mess, buggy, unstable, and full of wack design choices (visual and workflow). What I want from Akai is a rock-solid modern MPC with a streamlined sample workflow, a streamlined sequencer workflow and a well-compiled set of high quality fx (and maybe a competent synth engine for bass, pads, and fx).

so the fact that Roger appears to like the modern MPC's makes u less fond of of Roger; simply cos he does not agree with ur perspective of modern MPC's

U say the current mpc is convoluted mess but when u saw roger making a beat on the mpc live; there was nothing convoluted about the production processs.

I have had the mpc live 1 since it first dropped and it has crashed only a handful of times over that long period, and when using it from a simple sample chop and add synth basis there no bugs.

I think they have a decent enuff job of converting all the main workflow options of legacy mpc into the touchscreen format, but yes perhaps they could improve certain graphical aspects or make things more cutomisable, but this is all subjective.

We already have streamlined sample and sequencer workflow and high quality synths and a rock solid workflow so not sure how u have concluded this is not present in the current line of MPC's

it was E-A-SKI not Ski Beatz who took issue with the sonics of current MPCs

1. I am saying that he didn’t dig very deep into the MPC and his video is a one-sided promotional endorsement, which is what makes me like Roger less. His video is basic YouTube shilling on the level of Ave Mcree and the like…

2. Just a few examples: No way to rearrange fx slots, fx selection cluttered with useless legacy fx, multiple redundant ways to chop a sample and adjust chops, no way to adjust start and end points of chops at the same time with four qlinks, no database system for multisamples, hence constant deleting pgms and purging memory when trying out patches, plugin system has constant activation issues, Atari ST level song mode, certain plugins change qlinks when tapping one parameter, other don’t (and now I don’t even wanna continue anymore, the current system feels like it’s being held together by duct tape).

Sure you can load up a few sounds and bang something out in no time (that’s basically what you can do on any groovebox). It’s when you move past the honey moon period that the flaws become apparent. And the MPC’s flaws are well documented and should be part of any honest review at this point.

MR. Linn played around with an MPC. thats it. The End. Yall thinking inmusic 'bout to do some collab with MR. Linn. None of us reallllllly know why Mr. Linn did this, and he may not even say even if you asked him. I just enjoyed seeing Mr. Linn play with a current model MPC. He liked his basic options are still on the face and not buried in a menu. He promoted his linnstrument. Fade to black.

if Mr. Linn is about to do something with these jokers, ill eat my tie!
