Peace ya'll - I have a quick question regarding stem separation - I would like to do the following on the MPC Live or on the MPC Software:

- chop a sample say into 4 chops
- use stem separation and get 4 elements - Drums, Bass, Instruments and Other
- convert the 4 chops into a new drum program
- within that drum program - I now have the ability to play the initial 4 chops out but I also want the ability to remove parts of the stem separated elements e.g. remove drums ONLY but keep bass, instruments, other whilst keeping my chopped regions

I know this is possible because in program edit you can set it up to have up to 4 layers i.e. elements however I am unsure how to reach this step.

In the official Akai stem separation video - Andy explains how to do this but only with one element present in the drum program - I would like all 4 elements present and then have the choice to remove one or more and continue playing the chops:

An analogy of what I am trying to do is - for the Serato Sample users out there - chop a sample - click the drums icon in Serato Sample which just removes the drums element of the stems and allows you to play the chops with the remainder of the elements

I am specifically wondering if there is any automated method which allows you to do this as I tend to chop 32+ or 64+ chops which would be very tedious if I have to manually put every single layer in and slice via program edit.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have requested this as a feature suggestion, seems to make a lot of sense, but they haven't added any new features since original release. So when stemming an already sliced sample there should be an additional checkbox that gives the option to create a chopped program (using slices or pad params) rather than just exporting a single stemmed sample to a pad.

Workaround:

Set slice markers on the unstemmed sample
Stem and export the stemmed sample to pad A01 in a blank program - now pad A01 has the four stemmed layers, and each layer retains originally set slice markers
Use the COPY PAD function to make a copy of A01 to 31 other pads (i.e. A01 to B16)
In PROGRAM EDIT > SAMPLES change the 'SLICE' parameter for each pad (A01 = slice 1, A02 = slice 2 etc)

Should actually take too long, maybe a minute or so after the initial stem operation.


Alternatively:

Set slice markers in chop mode
Don't stem
Convert to standard 'destructive' chopped program ('extract new samples')
Use the chopped program as per normal workflow
When you come across a pad that could benefit from stemming, hit the stem icon at the top of program edit to just stem that pad.
Advantage: retain full quality on chops that never needed stemming
Disadvantage: more disruptive workflow, although stemming a short chop is quicker than stemming a complete loop

I was looking for the same thing. Here is how it works. I use 3.4.4 so I'll use that terminology. In track edit select the pad you have put the whole sample on. On the lower screen tap on samples, then you should be able to see the four attributes drums, vocals and so on. Take out what you don't want. Then go on the button on top of the screen with the arrow downwards. There tap on flatten pad. Name it so you recognize it. Choose an empty pad in an empty track. Now you created a new sample in the sample pool. In sample edit you can now chop it up.

What would be interesting is, if it is possible to remove one of the for attributes from the chops. Because I usually orientate myself on the drums to chop and if they're gone it's quiet hard for me.
