MPC 3 -- Let's GO!!

Yes this is definitely going to impact workflows that involve loading up a pool of kits, I do this myself to experiment with different kits on the same sequence, I’m not sure what the options are going to be here, I need to sit down and work something out, but so far it seems centred around midi track routing.

It does seem like quite a nuclear option to remove the ability to pool programs like this, there has to be some way of accommodating this?

WOW, it's hard to believe it's actually happening after all these years of speculation!

I do think AKAI is being brave and doing the right thing by updating the workflow. It will probably upset some older users but you can't keep working like it's 1989, you've got to move on some time
The irony is that back the early days, everyone would jump on the newest and latest machines, then at some point it became uncool to want the best quality and more hip to want the retro stuff. If you could go back in time those guys would kill to have the features we have now.

It all looks very nice. Love the new Main screen with visual waveforms and monitor levels, and having stuff colour-coded is very helpful (and looks cool)

It looks like most of it is just features from the Force UI so I'm wondering if they will just co-exist or if the Force will be getting an even bigger update with lots of other features.
I was also wondering why no software version? Could be coming later, or as not many people seem to use it, maybe they are going all-in on the standalone?
If they are concentrating on the standalone and dropping the software maybe this could mean a new range of MPC's with HDMI out to use larger monitors
After MPC3 a HDMI out is literally the only thing on my wishlist. Then you can just have the MPC with a turntable, speakers and a mic for a one-stop studio setup.

Obviously at some point they will introduce new hardware, and with the new UI changing the workflow I can see current buttons being dropped and new ones being needed so hopefully they'll beef up the motherboard andnot skimp on the memory.....and don't forget that HDMI out!

Here's what I don't like about this approach. Let's say you have a program on track one and several other midi tracks sending note data to that program/track. If I want to do any automation to one of these pads I have to do it on the program track instead of the midi track that sequences that said pad. It quite frustrated me because the way I think is that every single thing regarding the sound I am controlling should be available on the track that has the name of that pad. It will take a while to learn to think that way

Yeah , all hardware but particularly making music with dedicated buttons, no mouse. Something I don't understand, the workflow is still the same it has sequences, songs, loops. If you don't want the daw feeling then don't use the arranger. Except this new option, and the program thing, the workflow still the same but with better interface : less menu diving , good mixer for the 4 qlinks mpc's (still gonna use my x qlinks to mix), reorganize tracks. Personally the 3.0 is a step further to get away with my PC when it come to music and at this moment I only wish the announcement of a more powerful mpc (Live 3, mpc xl ?) to get more audio tracks.

he not talking about age; he talking about mpc users that are used to the old style of working; form the 2000XL days, the 3K & 4K, or the JJOS users.

He did a good job with the track mutes but I hate how abrupt they are now…definitely need to get used midi send to work around .

Good question. I see 8 velocity layers for drum programs. Does it apply to keygroup programs also? Mpc tutor said some about a robins and velocity update. Would be nice if we could build instruments with robins and velocity on one channel, to make it easy to use on different songs. If the ”change track view” would remain on screen without holding down a button, you could have keyswitches for different articulations and still be able to use the pitch and mod wheels.

do we have a confirmation that we can downgrade back to 2.15 or whatever if we don't like it ?

There's a downgrade button. Been flirting back and forth trying to make my projects suitable to convert to 3.0
