of course you misconstrued my point - 2" reels opposed to pro tools - one medium is analog the other digital. The point was that my source is analog as opposed to the favored digital format. Many people record directly into their computers or create music in the computer entirely. I choose not to because I feel that digital format has nothing to offer to my music with very little characteristic or feeling. I think recording to tapes adds something new. It also makes me feel like my music will stand out for its recorded personality. That is all i was trying to express through that comment. No rough feelings.....

in response to dude's post regarding the definition of 'quality' music:

IT DON'T MATTER HOW YOU FLIP IT, JUST FLIP IT DOPE!

you can clearly hear that the drums in that beat are way too loud. there is no concrete volume setting, but there is def. an area of distinction where you say to yourself, "wait a minute, this track just comes in WAY too loud in comparison to my the other tracks."

i'm big on the layered sound and when the drums came in on this beat it was just like BAM, too much all at once.

i don't think any of us are going to be as critical as you may think we will be in regards to specific recording techniques.

if it's heat, it's heat. if it could use some work we will def. let you know. there's nothing but CONSTRUCTIVE criticism coming from over here.

Yo drum, I was just stating that two inch is way different than cassettes, not a dis or anything, even 4 track cassettes sound better to me than pro tools, I don't mind noise if the stuff pounds. I'm not on any beef man, just sayin'.

S'all love.

Yo Skala, back on the warpath ;)

nah man, it was helpful criticism. Man, some people don't have decent monitoring set ups, and it's good to let him know how it goes, I often turn to you for some of that kind of criticism, and am thankful that you can be honest. Not dissing the track based on the volume thing, just saying it could be better with a better balance, the other sounds are dope as hell, and deserve some shit too.

yo elm, ya dun know, you know i got nothing but brotherly for you(from the heart) man, and i dont take nothing personal and it wasnt directed at you i know your a constructive dude personally , i am just pissed to know how some of the forums have gone, and the response from ppl bringingg up sh*** from like 0000.b.c , and the chidish behaviour and responses, also the segregation. ppl more show thier true selfd on borads, cuase no body knows them. i just didnt want to see some dyck rider coming up in here, jumping on a band wagon, repeating some elses post, or some s*** like tht ( i do not have you in mind highlife), so ijust kinda nip it iin bud, and get a clarification how some ppl gonna rate the tracks. . i really want to see this battle come through, young lions always fighting with each other to develop thier strengths, so they can mature in life, and i think beat battling should do the same, so far the guys who has posted on this topic, seem irie and cool, so i really looking forward to this.

thts the problem, a lot of your beats are on the fly, and they sound brilliant, no bull sh!t , the first one is the best composed one i have heard, you break it down and keep out out the monotony, which i think when you can do that, your on your way, i tell you already, and i not gonna waste the muscles in finger tips to type it out again,
you got mad talent, elm have patience with you from back in the day, and you come a long way, i must say, you definately got a style that is unique to you, you anreas keep that sh1it true.
settle down, and learn on your refinement, dont let this be your constraint . ease off the rushing and on the fly sh1it, and just concetrate on a "finished product"
if you can crank out beats like a bloody durex factory, dontlet the pre mature , ejaculation get to you, take your time and work your beats through!!!

i preferred the first one, it had compsition , and break down nicely , this one definatley sounds rushed, but not bad.

can hear the triple kick in there that sounds like a mistake, and it lacks character, also once again the drums are a tad loud, instead of looking for more instruments to buy, focus on a recording solution and monitors.
man i have my money on you!!!!! [/u][/b]

No problem...
Just heard the beat you recently posted in another topic.
I loved it. Did you use the Emax for it?
