Or buy a cheap ass, second hand akai midimix and assign the 16 buttons to track mutes plus you get a whole bunch of knobs to play around with effects live.

So, what are the grey cases?

I give you 4 examples:
some are using it for just sequencing hardware synths and euro rack systems
some are using it just as a drum machine
some are using it as keygroup /sample host for live playing
some are using it as a controller only

exactly.I see no contradiction to what I wrote.

Good luck with that attitude

LivePsy wrote:Song mode was always 'broke'. If all you can do is chain sequences, its not really song mode. What was always missing was recording new tracks across the entire chain of sequences and most importantly audio recordings across sequences

My point exactly since I entered into the MPC world.

LivePsy wrote:I LOVE that every sequence automatically has the same tracks and type. No more slightly different sequences to chain into a song. At the same time, this is going to piss off a lot of people.

Me too. It didn't make sense -at all- that the user had to take care of that. If tracks are required to be consistent across sequences, then the user shouldn't have the option to change that.

I think all the negativity will evapourate once peeps start using the new 3.0

people are stuck in they ways; and dont want change they just have a bug fix only mindset

also lotta people did not even think 3.0 was coming to they world view far as akai has been shifted; to they clining on to their legacy workflow mindsets, and are closed to anything new.

but its as its still in beta i expect this mute issue will be remidied as it is so easy to do.

That's to the q-links isn't it, or to pads as well?

Q-links on the MPC. On the Force there's 64 pad macros that I use as mutes. Hopefully the MPC will get these later. But I also have 1 of the 16 knobs as a mute knob in the track macro section: https://youtube.com/shorts/DVkXYS_mfZc? ... pIXtAzx42E

As a live thing if you know what you commonly want to mute, you can set the 32 project macro knobs as mute groups. Each knob can have up to 128 parameter (I think that's the max, but I never tried to add more) assigned to it. So you can have different knobs with a set of different tracks as mutes & you can set them to be off/on or temporary.

I'd like to use q-links as continuous controllers assigned to the different synths and mix effects, rather than as on/off switches. The pads seems much better suited to that. There are only 4 q-links accessible at one time, while 16 pads are just sitting right there. The idea of all this a predetermined to cut out, and all these to come in, doesn't feel so live to me. It's not fully out yet, I'll wait until I see what changes happen in the meantime. I think I'd go more with having one sequence on Track Mute Bank A, and the next sequence on Track Mute Bank B. More of a pain to set up, but more flexible to play.

Quite wrong, there's more than jus your "black n white" view of things, honestly.

Yeah, agreed, we don't need to antagonize each other because we have different way's of working, and so a major change has different implications.

Counterpoint: Akai seem to want to make an MPC for people who don't like MPCs and have been complaining about basic fundamentals for years, but I'm not sure that this group still won't be complaining just as much in a year's time. While also pissing off people who actually do like MPCs by ripping up the foundations of how the line has worked for decades.

Seems like a lotta lotta people out there really want a "DAWless DAW" - you see these same exact same kinds of complaints around e.g. the Push 3. Problem being that is it's a contradiction in terms and if that's your goal it'll never be enough of a DAW until it's all of a sudden too much of a DAW. No-win situation as far as I can see, but I'm willing/hoping to be proved wrong.

MPC 3 isn't a forced update... you can install whatever firmware version you want that suits your needs as long as the firmware supports your hardware version.

Anybody can hang out on 2.x with the currently released hardware and keep their old workflows if they'd like. Sure you'll be giving up on some of the new features, but it isn't as if MPC 2.x just vanishes.

seem like the legacy MPC users are the main ones with reservations; those who who come from the 2500, 2000xl, era.

The people who got on the akai bandwagon in this current live2, mpc one era are not complaining at all.

But when I think back to how horrible the akai OS was for the MPC1000 until JJOS came and saved the day; am thinking people should have zero complaints about this new 3.0 OS.

Again I think some people who were very dismissive of the notion of there even being a 3.0 are a bit shell shocked; so they are diggin they heels in, but once they try it and find things they like, most of the so called show stoppers will fade, as people find new workarounds.

For sure - I mean, I've got a first gen Live so it's really not a big deal for me to just stick with 2.0. Admittedly, I did get a bit salty for a minute after going from the initial rush of finding out that this new version was even going to be available for my box to reading the fine print on what they're proposing and realising that this probably will not be for me. But that's just human nature I guess.

Still interested to try it out, but I'll definitely want to be sure there's an option to "downgrade" back to an actual MPC OS if it goes the way I suspect it will based on the information that's currently available. There are definitely things that I want and see as improvements in the new version though, and maybe that will be enough to justify dealing with the big imho unnecessary structural changes.

But I suppose my point here is that I really doubt that orientating their new MPC approach directly towards people who don't like MPCs will be a recipe for damping down negativity in the long run.

Seems to me that a lot of these people really want a "DAWless DAW" rather than an MPC.

Very easy to sit there on your throne when the changes don't impact your core workflow isn't it. :)

I quoted you last night with my methods. You tell me how il replicate that.

Oh and I have tried it. Still trying it off and on but currently know I'm flogging a dead horse. Maybe if midi clips appear I can adjust but in it's current form...

Oh. And would you be happy with choosing to lose support for your devices?
Or would you put money on Akai supporting both 2.0 and 3.0
