@Tutor Thanks for the clarification on the kit auditioning workaround for the one to one track workflow. Not sure if Akai will change it for the release version of MPC3 but having a workaround is always good. @jpeg @B-Wise yall need to chill its a forum not a presidential debate.

Thanks for sharing this, 8 layers instead of 4 for auto-sampler could potenitially be useful.

It's not that serious & me telling another member I don't like to block people but, let's not deal with each other is between me & that person. I kept it respectful as possible. I find that the best way to deal some people, is to not deal with them. He's free to reply to any of my post & I'm free to ignore him. I was just letting him know.

I would also like to thank Tutor as well for using his writing experience to clarify my Dummy track/MIDI send workaround I learned on the Force.

No problem. The 1st thing I thought about is how power users like Tutor is gonna take sample packs to the next level. 2.15 gave the option to edit all layers at once which is something I always wanted.

IMO Team Akai has gone all out on 3.0 :worthy: .. address so many of my personal criticism that its almost like Im obligated to run out and buy a NuAkai MPC ...

From a Birdseye view my only real criticism is: I would love MIDI FX and ad advanced step sequencer capable of its own independent playback orders and resolution with step FX

For those using 3.0

Just want to ask about compatibility between old files, ..

Sequences that use mute automation?

And concerning the New UI /architecture

Can sample and loop points now be assigned to knobs?/ Be automated?

Otherwise just a massive respect to Akai for having the balls to revamping the flow to the better .. love the idea of midi wiring tracks ..

Only hope the next hardware revision will reflect heavily on the new UI /takes the load of all the touche screen operation (Wich seams like 85% of operation) .. And yhea lets not forget the built in moogfoogers :smoker:

MPC-Tutor wrote:I really think we'll ever see the keygroup engine develop to Kontakt levels, I suspect the only way we can really take things to another level is if they allow third party plugins, but I suspect that's still going to be heavily restricted. Dustyslices was talking about the QUBIQ references in Ring The Alarm

QUBIQ is an app/platform that allows for creation of vst plugins, appears to be owned or certainly closely associated with Sonivox (i.e. inMusic, Akai's parent company). So putting 2 and 2 together, you have to assume this is potentially where they are heading with the MPC.

Very Interesting.

HouseWithoutMouse wrote:Keygroups don't even have an actual legato mode. Even with "legato" it will re-trigger the new note's sample. Unusable for synth leads. And there's no sustain loop tuning, so short loops such as single cycles will be out of tune relative to the attack portion of the sample.

It's usable for piano/rhodes/pluck kind of sound and drums. That's it. And pads with long sustain loops.

Agreed. This issue must be addressed. How am I supposed to make a trombone glissando with no legato or portamento?

Nobody in their right mind tries to make actual realistic orchestral music with an MPC, but many try to do electronic music where you might try to do your own synth sounds, including leads. Well, there's always outboard MIDI.

HouseWithoutMouse wrote:If you can program a sampler that has working pitched playback and envelopes, and MPC/Force EASILY has that, then you can easily make a working legato and portamento, it is completely trivial stuff. The only thing you need is a CLUE. If you don't have a clue, you have challenges.

Hmmm, if you're talking about legato for orchestral samples, no.
I've worked on big sample libraries and realistic legato is anything but trivial.

Two thoughts about the new MPC 3

PAD MUTES
Does anyone use pad mutes for kits? Wouldn't this avoid the wbole multi tracks for one kit problem?

A SMALL KIT MADE FOR EACH TRACK
Why not have a kit just for the kick, and a kit just for the hats?

I'm just saying that if the loss of Programs is a thing, could you work another way. Duplicating a full kit across many tracks and then tweaking bits on different copies of the original kit is working against the new workflow.

When do the punters actually get to download the Beta?

It's good enough for YT affiliates.. those know sign up for beta understand it may include bugs..

So what's the hold up how much longer?

why not. It has become and is becoming even more an all purpose workstation like machine.
I do a lot of hybrid stuff, and the AIR Studio Strings, while not being 101% realistic, try to sound convincing.
Sold all my hardware btw after I got the MPC.
My fav for stringy sounds is the Mellotron though. It has just that hybrid vibe I love.
Anyways, formants in samples is one difficulty with legato, multisamples another, but basically of course its technically trivial to do smooth pitch change while a sample plays.
Just might not sound good, depending on the sources.

A way to add plugins without licensing costs would be a killer feature for me.
I would start developing for that platform. Very unlikely though.

Akai have to balance getting feedback from public beta testing vs the sh*tstorm of hate against the changes. Look how the MPC5000 got a bad reputarion from an OS with bugs ands limitations.

Can someone confirm that List Edit in order to edit at 1/96 resolution is still available?
