MPC-Tutor wrote:song mode is still there and has in itself not changed at all. And if you have always built all your sequences with a consistent track order and program assignment using recorded track mutes (or erasing events etc), you will have little to no change in workflow in that respect as you were already effectively working within the confines of a 1-2-1 track system.

After converting a song to a sequence, open up in the arranger to view multiple tracks simutanelously, but editing is still done using grid/list view or audio edit (either in a little window at the bottom of arrange, or in the usual dedicated screens) or the via standard seq and track edit functions (copy events, double length, insert bars etc).

People who made songs with inconsistent track orders across sequences, or who used different programs on the same tracks across sequences will of course need to find an alternative workflow

i have never understood this/why?

i make lots & lots of sequences in my MPC x and 4000 and have tracks/programs all over the place, not consistent at all
then i use a song to build up the arrangement, as per sequenced sequences
never had a problem with that workflow
but i never ever convert to one sequence afterwards, just create the whole arrangement upfront so to say

(and that is why a copy song functionality from the 4000 -and all those before- comes handy)

If you don't ever convert to a single sequence then it often doesn't matter if you mix tracks and programs, especially if you are just bouncing down to stereo from song mode.

If you are tracking out stems through the analogue outs, then again, probably doesn't matter how you structure the sequences as long as you've configured your outputs accordingly.

So in these instances I can see how the new system might seem unnecessarily restrictive and not worth all the workarounds.

I think, ultimately, the 'intended' way they built things in MPC2 was to assume that you would be structuring your sequences with those track consistencies (otherwise converting songs to seqs and exploding stems would never work as intended). With mpc3 they no longer imply that this is the intended way, they enforce it.

TBH in terms of using song mode, I'm not sure being forced to adapt a consistent track/program structure in all your sequences is going to be an issue, not once you start using mpc3, you'll soon realise it's fine.

Can you describe a detailed example of how you think this is going to cause grief (step-by-step workflow) and I'll try to explain how you might need to adapt or tweak things.

the only "real" grief i have right now i can't copy a song in MPC2 (like i can copy a sequence or a track)
-to try out different arrangements
apart from that i am real fine with current song mode - i hope it can work the same in MPC3
(-re-structuring outputs+mix ch accordingly -or shuffling tracks around (now possible in MPC3) i don't find illogical or cumbersome)
-although i have a few ideas to make song mode more interesting
(not so linear, more a pool of sequences that can be played/or not, on a conditional base, or a performative base, like in Ableton session view)

I'm pretty happy to get same tracks shared with all the sequences, change order is not vital but welcome, but I would see indeed a song mode Wich create instant arranger wo can modify on the go (repeate X2 sequence 2 : hop the sequence 2 X2 pop up at his place in the timeline etc...) and in this song mode you could add audio. Like a real daw behaviour. Guess we maybe have to wait to get this level of efficiency. But mpc 3.0 is cool and can't wait to get my hands on it.

Great ideas

Basically give it the Force sequencer & clip matrix & how all that is tied to the Arranger.

There is a way to do this. Here is my click through...
V3.0
Main page
1- click sequence edit pencil, copy sequence for as many parts that will be changed to build your song
2- Back in main page, select sequence 1, eg; and name it as intro
3- double tap the arrangement panel note section to go to arrangement page
4- in the arrangement page in top left hand tap the ARRANGE word
5- tap edit box, top right next to gear icon. In this page select ERASE option.
6- Select how you want to erase notes
7- tap the MPC pads to highlight squares to keep/ erase the these notes/events
8- Unfortunately, we still can't hear out changes until we hit Do IT
9- go back to main page
10- select sequence 1, then select sequence, it will be different to 1 & arrangement midi changes also show.

THis will erase events JUST for that one sequence, so repeat process for othe sequences to built the parts for the song. Then go to song mode, as usual. The other options will be available, as well as ERASE, just for any selected sequence.
