Been speculated as possible for a while now.

If I had ram issues I'd consider it but I'd have to brush up on my SMD work. Been a few years.

Yeah I've heard people talk about trying it but this is the 1st I've seen it done & successfully at that. If this work long-term I wonder what's the limit? It's also makes me think Akai can always had done this or can in the future.

Probably safe to speculate that with MPC3 coming, updated hardware (processor/ram) is also in the roadmap.

So even though from a sustainability and accessibility POV, InMusic/Akai could offer a ram upgrade service for existing users, there is probably not much chance, because we would be less likely to buy the new stuff*

Hats off to this person for going under the hood!

Maybe we should ask Scotty from Strange Parts to take it on as a project.

With Disk Streaming, it's going to be less needed, but a 2 hour live set can take a lot of RAM - my current workaround of using external sequencers as the main sequencer, and then you can stop the MPC - load up and then hit the sync external gear button to bring the new MPC track in.

I really wish that chipset would just die already and get shot into the sun haha. I am still shocked when we roll out a new product or revision for something and its still based off that same damn SoC hah.

tbf its a rock solid SoC despite being old, and i guess if it fits the parameters of the desired spec for a project theres really no harm in using it but we are already seeing its limits with the mpc with the random project crashes (running out of processor bandwidth on RT linux kernel running in performance mode WoT).

Why do people waste time on mucking about with the SSH hack to such an old SoC. Just think how many hours of time have been spent on that old low-power low-spec thing.

Thats how I feel about it. Ive been fine with 2GB since 2017 and I just bounce to sample if things get heavy on the usage.

Yeah we use them for 'smart displays' and 'media players' that have a bare minimal Android OS on them. I can see it struggling here and there when you try to run more modern APKs on them, but for the most part, the shit people use them for its perfectly fine. Folks mostly use them as digital whiteboards so they're all running our whiteboard software which was designed around and optimized for it so it works. It just makes me laugh still. One of these days Im gonna try and get in and see if I can install the MPC OS on one and make myself a 75" tablet version of it. They got plenty of USB ports, just need to bring in my UMC1820 and a controller haha.

Me too, if I'm working on a single track. But if I'm trying to put together a 2 hour live set w/ 20-30 different songs, that's where things get touchy. I was able to get around the same limitations with 4k's 512M limit, but I had to the same issue itself. Use an external 3rd party sequencer as my master and then I have other tracks that use my synths and drum machines only , that I use, while loading up more on the MPC and then resyncing it. I can get farther into the set with the MPC Live than w/ the MPC 4k but 2 hours can take a LOT of samples - upcoming disk streaming could be very helpful but that will only be a reality if the new No Mute's per Sequence and strict 1 program to track across the project is something that I can't work around. If I can't, then it's MPC Live OS 2.0 and that 4G RAM may be calling my name for my "live" box.

The beauty of the MPC is that there are many different ways to utilize it. I utilize it completely different for a single song compare to a live set.

If you get it to work please make a video of it but use the wackest beat you got. The juxtaposition of using a big screen mod to play bad music would be so funny to me.
