Use of submixes or multiple sequences: Another approach could be to create multiple sequences or submixes to achieve similar mute effects. However, this leads to a more complex setup and can make project management more difficult, especially for live performances.
Synchronization issues: Since mutes are now global, it can be difficult to perform specific mutes in one part of a song without having unintended effects on other parts of the project.

Workaround programs in MPC 3 OS
The limitation of using programs in MPC 3 OS means that users will need to use workarounds to achieve similar flexibility:

Switching between tracks for different programs: Instead of switching programs within a track, users now have to switch between different tracks. However, this can interrupt the workflow and make it difficult to quickly explore sounds.

This is what makes the MPC workflow so spontaneous and flexible.

Please don't remove these features because they make the difference to a DAW, you could just as well use a DAW on a big screen if these features were removed.

Yeah, I'm hoping this, and the Multi Channel Midi bug gets fixed for MPC2. I'm not quite sold on MPC3 yet.

Yes, if you load a kit to an existing track that already contains MIDI events those events remain and the kit just gets replaced. Browser checkbox setting decides whether the previous kit's samples are kept in memory - the previous kit itself (e.g. what you'd previously call the 'program' file) is gone either way, unless you use UNDO.

Alternatively use the method I mentioned previously, where you load your second kit to a new track and use SEND TO parameter to send the midi from track 1 to the second track. Load multiple kits to multiple tracks if you need to preview more than one kit this way, just keep switching the SEND TO value on track 1.

Which is exactly how the MPC works now. It mutes the audio in the mixer, not the MIDI events. That's the big issue with it. You mute now, its ALL muted instead of just the MIDI data on the one sequence.


Agreed, and thats fine if you are working in a linear arranger (such as Cubase - I know, I'm old!) with all your tracks top to bottom, each in say an 8 bar loop, each track with its own radio buttons for mute/solo and it being a piece of piss to drag/drop/copy/delete those chunks into a song left to right. The problem with 3.0 is that the arranger doesn't have the ability to move the chunks at will which IMO is the whole point of a DAW workflow. And even if you could, compounding the issue on an MPC is trying to do it all on a pissy 7" screen and even worse, without the extreme handiness of something as simple as a mouse.

I'm a massive fan of proper linear arrangers but 3.0 isn't that, so I don't think its going to work for me. I believe the legacy workflow just works better in the constraints of a small standalone device. If not that, then a nice fat widescreen monitor with a DAW, mouse etc is the other way to go. But I'll still be watching the no doubt hundreds of MPC 3.0 YT vids which will come our way soon in case someone presents a decent workflow that I could live with.

its bold but truthfully insane what they have done with 3.0.
track mutes and programs have got to return.
i've emailed them about this too so hopefully they'll listen.

No, you cannot. Though oddly it does recognize my Access Virus TI Darkstar as an audio interface over USB... it now prevents me from using USB Midi for the Virus since the Virus disables audio outputs when this happens :Sigh:[/quote]

Lol All the interfaces that don’t work that should, and it recognizes a Virus.

Probably just disabled for the time being in the beta. thats not really part of the software itself. at kernel level where audio device drivers and detection take place. dont worry about that much for now, its not a complicated fix for them if it is an issue.

Genuine question for everyone asking that programs to return, what is your suggestion on how that would work within the unified track concept (because I don't see how Akai are going to roll back on unified tracks given MPC3 is centered around this).

If you have the ability to change the program on an existing track, then to maintain the unified track across all sequences the program would have to change on all sequences, otherwise it's no longer unified to have one sequence running that track with a different program.

So is the suggestion:

a) load up multiple programs into memory, but without loading them into a track, so basically a 'program pool' in memory, like mpc2.
b) tracks return to having a select box where you freely assign a program from the pool
c) changing the program on a track in any one sequence will change the program on that track across all sequences

Just remember that in mpc3 you can already change the program on a track (across all sequences) - just load another program to that track (from the browser), or merge or copy the kit from an existing track. IT's really the idea of being able to 'freely' switch back and forth between many kits that is missing in mpc3 (hence the 'send to' workaround being suggested).

Again, it's a genuine question because if you are suggesting x, y, and z happen, it's useful to explain to Akai how you see it working from a technical and practical perspective.

Just for the dummies like me:

One program has kicks and snares
Track one is the kick on each beat, say C2
Track two is the snare on 2 and 4, say D2

Is this 2 independent copies of the original kit? If you make a change to a snare then you have to keep track of which kit if you want to save for the future?

For me I'd be happy with seq 1 acting as a master track list for subsequent sequences. But I build a whole track in a single looped seq with multiple copies of programs keygroups and plugins and have all core elements in place before I copy out sequences. Once linked in song mode I can then edit individual sequences for builds and fills etc before converting to a long sequence for automation recording

But I know people like to mix and match between sequences and probably wouldn't work for them.
