Using contact cleaner on the Q-Links

You miss things a lot when you first get here, but you have to get over it. My craving for English ale has subsided.

The audio world is leaps and bounds better over a decade. And every year I put in a big order with Thomann, although I seem to be on top of my GAS nowadays.

I recently contacted the builder of the MicroMonster2 re an encoder that wasn't responding well, contact cleaner was the answer. Might not be the same for all encoders but def seems to be THE step and they were against replacing the encoder.

Much more active in Ha Noi and HCMC, which you'd expect. The Vietnamese tend to like a lot of Techno, once they break away from VinHouse. Otherwise it's opts of way out their avant-garde stuff. But the DJ scene is much more varied, with travelers and immigrants.

Never though of using foil myself, does that help? Mine started to get 'intermittent' too, but the stupid rubberized coating on the knobs has been coming off for awhile now so I figured they were probably not getting a good 'connection'. I bought a set of some knurled knobs for like $10 on Amazon that fit perfect and rocked, so haven't had to deal with that for awhile. Now my big knob is starting to get flaky, I'll have to try out the foil tonight, but I kinda want to replace it with a big red knob like on my Waldorf Microwave haha.

Shouldn't hose them with cleaner, they are grease packed.

I did this. very helpful. most of my knobs were loose.

I use DeOxit all of the time in my vintage audio restoration stuff. To be clear - DeOxit D5 is 5% concentration of their patented contact cleaner. The other 95% is a lubricant and a carrier cleaner that evaporates quickly.

DeOxit D100 is literally a 100% concentration of their patented contact cleaner. There's no lubricant.

You use D5 when you need to spray it into potentiometers and other hard to reach places, or need to lubricate the oxidized surface as well. You use D100 when you have direct access to the metal you need to remove oxidation from but don't really need it to be lubed. Fun fact: DeOxit F-series is made for faders that use conductive graphite. Don't use D5 or D100 on faders!

Glad to hear you got your Q-links working. They're just bog standard potentiometers (with capacitive touch added) at the end of the day, but I don't know if they're sealed as well as they could be. Clearly since yours oxidized so quick they probably aren't! LOL!
