Put clip programs back in the MPC. Doesn’t make sense to remove a function that was a useful part of the software.

I wonder how clips import into mpc3, probably the first thing I check .

Honestly, IMHO, Clip Programs were garbage on the MPC compared to how they properly work on Force, so I'd prefer that they just bring the Force Clip Matrix to MPC 3 instead. But that's just me. I always hated how Clip Programs worked on MPC. They felt shoe-horned and just... weird.

Re: MIDI being on its way out

Look at the MPC3 arranger demo video and count the tracks. Only one track MIDI, six tracks audio.

I was "obviously" pointing out how they're trying to make the handicapped arranger look less bad by using audio tracks, which have section elements, which CAN be moved around as blocks. Unlike MIDI, which is a second-class citizen there, so they try to show as little of it as possible. For MIDI, you select a time range of events and then you can cut or copy the selected events. If you're able to do that with a big smile and sound enthusiastic about it, you might qualify as an Akai Youtube influencer.

If they had to introduce the multi channel note off bug in order to fix hanging notes (as someone said in another thread), then I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for MIDI tracks to be refactored to have movable container blocks between track and event.

Yeah, I don't think anyone could ever take this seriously though:

The hell with MIDI altogether! It's a 1980s technology. Audio is modern. Spotify is all audio, no MIDI!

I mean... are you trolling or are you trying to be serious? :hmmm:

No they changed it to 'Music Production Center' when the MPC4000 came out and had audio tracks and the full Z series sampler engine in it. MIDI was perfectly fine (in fact thats where the MPC's rep came from) and still isn't going anywhere. It was basically the start of the MPCs we have today, except for some reason InMusic went about 3000 steps backwards when they did it and seemed to use the MPC2000 as their base instead.

It's possible they lost some of the code or it left with a coder.

Several videos in YT show the clips button missing from the arranger plus I think that marlow ? Said that when you import clips they get treated as normal programs

ome of us want to use the MPC (X) as a music production center, almost like a kind of DAW thing.

Then just get a laptop and a daw…

Akai may have removed the MPC style clips to in preparation of adding the Force clips & clip matrix as an sequencer mode. The Force seq with its scenes is basically the same as the MPC sequencer with its sequences. Even more so know that you have to add each track type one at a time & the lack of switching programs on the same track.

On some of 3.0 video comments, MPC users were suggesting for a feature that basically be Force style clips. But the cool thing about them adding to the MPC is it could be just a optional mode, but once MPC users start mix clips from other sequences with the clip-matrix layout, many will prefer it. I think this may be key to how Akai designs the new gen MPCs.

As 3.0 become the norm, 2.0 may only get bugs fixes & some plugins, but 3.0 will slowly become more Force like & if you don't like stay on 2.0, tho, now that mute per seq is back, I think most will adapt & use 3.0 & those that stay on 2.0 will be such a small amount that Akai are willing to sacrifice them for all the younger users that only knows 3.0.

Yeah, I'd be surprised if they provide any ongoing 2.x updates. It would be nice if they leave it without any of those nasty MIDI bugs, just so the people who don't want to go to 3.0 can have a relatively stable legacy version to stick with.

I think if a lot of people refuse to go to 3.0 they might continue updating 2.x with support for any new plugin releases. But realistically I assume they will want to draw a line under 2.x.

yeah maintenance of 2 code branch is costly. I may have overlooked it, but MPC 3.X seems to be next FORCE os. so a single os, single code base, benefits from the whole akai ecosystem (missing plug-ins Force users where complaining about). Great news, is we will all be talking about the same bugs :-)

:hmmm: Once MPC 3 goes public stable channel, I'd wager 2.x will be officially deprecated and will no longer receive updates - bug fixes, maintenance, or otherwise.

I feel you & that's why I said "may". New updated that only has bug fixes for a OS they've been using for 7 years doesn't seem way out there & I'm assuming that any new plugin can be used if it's supported by 2.0, but who knows.

The more the MPC becomes like the Force it makes me realize just how ahead Akai & the Force were back in 2019, tho, the Force didn't become a true force until it got that big update I think 3.0.5 where you could use it as a MIDI hub & some other features. When the Force first came out I thought it was some dumb-down MPC made for DJs that only had 8 tracks & 8 scenes/clips. I've never been more happy to be wrong & I found out it's actually a smarter MPC. The Force is the future!
