So companies like fabfilter wouldn't bother with this. So I wouldnt see In Music going out of house with plug ins of that level (not that I'd imagine the GUI would even work in the MPC and that's half the draw with them).

I think the best we can hope for is for Air Music to develop similar plug ins to those that other companies make, and for Moog to work with Akai to port their legacy VSTs such as the moogerfooger collection and make new VST with the MPC in mind.

I can't see how anything modular or semi modular from Moog (or VCV rack) would work due to the limited screen range, and cables running accross screens would be a mess. But a matrix styleset up like the microfreak would be interesting.

Ok , gotcha :smoker:

I had been hoping for Ether to be made available for the MPC, but maybe it's just too hungry to port over. Seems to have some overlap with Solaris.

Drop down menus from the jacks would be good enough and could include the CV outputs. Would be nice if these could be used as CV inputs too. Use the f buttons to navigate left right up and down the racks

Never owned a micro freak but a matrix like reapers routing matrix would give a good overview to it's routings at a glance.

yep, that pretty much sums it up.
Here’s a short backstory:
https://alanrpearlmanfoundation.org/jennifer-hruska/

fun fact 1: Subfactory plugin is listed under QUBIQ as well which makes it a second plugin with ties to this platform.

fun fact 2: links and descriptions of 2GetherAudio in the firmware go back to at least fw 2.8/2.9 as far as I remember. So it means that this is some sort of a long game for Akai.

MPC-Tutor wrote:I believe QUBIQ was a development platform that allows the creation of plugins in whatever format you need (VST, AU, etc), maybe like Hise, or perhaps more dumbed down like Romplur or Maize.

QUBIQ was created by a related party to inMusic (Jennifer Hruska). They release a very basic plugin (ring the alarm) with QUBIQ referenced in the install folder, so it seems like they are testing the waters.

If it is this, then likely to be for indies to develop new niche plugins from scratch within certain restrictions rather than a port of existing VST plugins. I'm all for it as long as the inevitable walled-garden distribution model is not too greedy (assume it will be via an 'MPC plugin' app store with a % kickback).

The problem with these marketplaces is that there's always a few 'favoured' vendors who quickly overtake it. For example the 'expansion exchange' site got quickly taken over by loopmasters and a couple of others who mostly did lazy Expansion Builder mass conversions of existing sample packs (no proper MPC kits, just folders of one shots in an XPN). So unless you are releasing new stuff on it every day, your content just gets buried under all the noise.

So does this process make it easier for Air to make a both VST and MPC compatible plug in, than the previous approaches?

Hard to say as I have completely no clue how's their development looks like internally.
In my mind that qubiq thingy is just an SDK for authorisation related stuff, everything else is handled directly via JUCE.
Juce is very versatile, crossplatform and it doesn't have to be used specifically for audio plugins - you can build standalone apps with it, design gui, handle authorisations etc. besides when you build a plugin, you heavily rely on a lot of open source codes and projects - it's not like you sit day and night trying to reinwent the wheel. Akai for example have several open source algos taken/ based on Jon Dattorro reverberation paper (github is flodded with those). They have several algos taken directly from Will Pirkles book/website etc... Once you have working algorithm sorted then you can start implementing in in every product you own ie. Sprite/Ether/Jura/Fabric - same reverb algo, different controls.
So when it comes to third party devs I think they will have to develop plugins as usual but with some constrains set (doubt akai would give out source code just like that), submit the code to Akai/Inmusic, sign several NDAs and only then, they (akai) will simply cross compile it to MPC - IDK :hmmm: .

EDIT:
not going to lie, don't understand half of the math sh**t in this book yet, but tbf it's not a black magic neither.

I dont have any real interest in adding 3rd party plugins into the stand alone mpc stuff. Others might, it seems like a lot of work for something not so important. It would open up a world of underruns and instability for users and then suddenly it becomes my personal problem when i turn any corner lol. I'd rather not open that can of worms.

Yeah, I feel the same, I am really happy with the range inside the MPC, and them adding Subfactory has added something with a different sound. So while I thin I am not interested, if something came along that added something different that sounded worth it., I think I'd easily buckle. A physical modeling synth in the realms of Chromophone and Objekt would be cool, I think I'd struggle to resist that. I think I'd also be more open to FX from third parties too, that did some weird things, that helped things get gnarly. And a vocoder that ran efficiently would be hard to say no to, especially if it enabled me to choose the my own carrier (but this is something I hope In Music milks Moog for along with their mooger fooger range) .

And then there's Valhalla..

Add to this Xpand, TheRiser, Studio Brass, Studio Winds, Pop Winds and Brass, Ethnic Instruments, AX80 Clone, Prophet Clone, Visual EQ, and Hard Clipper.

Am I right in thinking that since plug ins have become paid for, that every new plug-in has been a new VST. So existing legacy VST have never been converted to MPC plug in once payment was involved.

Jura, OPX4, Mini- D, Organ, Stage piano and EP, Strings, SubFactory, Flavor Pro, and Delay Pro, Soft Clipper were all new VST and Plug ins at the same time, and to be paid for.

So legacy probably won't ever be converted.

I think I would get riser, but use really sparingly as that can get old fast. Seems like it would convert well to the MPC, but unlikely as it VST side has kind of finished making any return.
