MPC X SE - User Error or Defective ?

Quick version

New MPC X SE

No output from Headphones , 1/8 Jack , 1/4 Jack .

When routing audio through 1 /2 , there is no audio from front outputs and rear Main outputs and rear 1/2.

All knobs are in the middle , I have to turn the 3/4 mix knob and volume knob max to hear barely 0.01 decibel of the sound playing .


Extra info

Main out and 1/2 produce no audio

Outputs 3/4/5/6/7/8 all produce normal audio when routed

Routing programs to 3/4 out plays volume correctly on the front headphone jacks.

Reflashed 2.15 firmware , reset the preferences , same situation.


Am I missing anything? I have a Live , Live 2, One and the same projects output correctly on those machines.

Do you have your mix/cue knobs adjusted?

I tried it in every position , all the way left , center , all the way right

Even the direct main knob had it directly at 12.

Going into channel strip setting, tested every output on main and individual programs , when anything is routed to 1/2 the meters are going but no output.

Changing any program /track output to 3/4 , everything functions normally .

Pretty sure it’s defective. I plugged up an presonus interface and a Scarlett interface. Both worked no problem routing from the interfaces mains, headphones , etc… all,worked and audio routed accordingly.

It was fun while it lasted, I’ll take it back and have them order another one.

Is this only for projects loaded from the other MPCs or even when starting a completely fresh project?

If the projects are fine on the other MPCs, there is no reason for them to not work on the X.

Is this a brand new unit or a used unit (sold as fully working)?

Projects made from the software , made from Live , One , and tested projects from built in Expansions. All the same issue.

Guitar Center overnighted another unit , it will be here tomorrow.

Final Update

New MPC X SE arrived today , loaded up my project and it worked correctly out of the box. So the first one was definitely defective.

All outputs worked correctly. Time to update it , came with a old firmware.

Tomorrow is my last day at my job (moving). I’m really tempted to bring it with me and just use it all day at my desk lol .

bought a brand new retro live 2 and out of the box the carrier board was faulty. leds would not light up, got the "no audio device error" , device would not shut down until the battery went flat, so for sure this can happen.

congrats on the next chapter in your life. i bought the retro live 2 to do just what you want to do. i had a 61 key back home in the lab but wanted that same functionality on the go. i sold my 61 key a few months ago and picked up an x se.
