An OS update shouldn't downgrade someone's user experience either. You might not care about clip programs, fine, some do.

Never said I don't care about clips, actually wish to have them as well but Akai is a company, their priority is to make money on as many sources as they can. If you think about it, Andy never said they'll bring midi clips but that they looking into it. in other words they weigh pros and cons on both sides. Don't belive they will abandon Force but given that it will be (most likely) unified os, they will hold off from making both systems too similiar for as long as they can.

EDIT:
there is one thing I don't understand - they coming to you, saying "here... that's what we came up with up to now, go and play with it", and you all throw shit at them
this is beta - f**k knows how the final product will look like, I do understand to give them pointers or ideas but jeeez... we need to chill a bit...

I mean you know nothing about AKAI's business strategy, sales number, or the reason as to why they allegedly removed clip programs or anything else. All I know is that taking the opportunity of an update to downgrade functions isn't a smart strategy from a reputation perspective.

At this point, I just wish they add the arranger and mixer to 2.16 ...

"at this point"

a few days after AKAI dropping a first (and decently stable/polished) build of a public beta

again, did they removed them ? Is it final ? you got mail from Jack O'mighty or did they gave you whatever they have working up to this point ? did they degraded your user experience by forcing you to play with unstable test product ? There is no final product on the horizon yet so I would hold off with judging on what did they removed because you don't know what the final product will look like, same as I don't know. :hmmm:

lol, that's true Oscar... I was a little uneven with my choice of words. It IS a beta, and we ARE supposed to test s**t.
But please also bear in mind that this is the 3rd iteration of AKAIs' software for the MPC (if you don't count JJOS...).
Also that by now they know all too well the preferences of their clients.
So removing the clips feature par example (which they added in 2.x with so much fanfare) is a little weird.
The "MPC as a software" paradigm was promising us continous improvements and compatibility, not removing features with subsequent releases. At least that's how it was with going from 1.x to 2.x.

So my "at this point" attitude was more like thinking back at all these years, not necessarily at this 3.x beta release

One will display clips in horizontal fashion the other in vertical - at this point it will be up to visuals and hands on controls. Is force a dead end ? who knows ? I know the force folks have big reasons to feel being left out but lets face it - you have no idea what are they cooking in r&d and you have no idea what next update will bring. :)
Yes, the whole question is whether Force is a dead-end or if a Force II is even possibly planned in some unknown future. Both are plausible. If a Force II is in the cards, then product differentiation is indeed necessary - segmenting the market between MPC culture and Ableton culture. But if Force is a dead-end, then it is in Akai's interest to bring the arranger grid to MPC, thus killing Force, their own product, before others do.

there is a lot of references in the firmware as to what's coming, but I can't really make out whether it's for the force or its for mpcs as I don't know the Force as much as I know mpc lol

I get it, I've been frustrated with some of the more show-stopping MIDI bugs on MPC myself too. I don't think we can drop any critique or angst about missing features in MPC3 though until we get a first official release. Holding back functionally during a beta is totally acceptable behavior imo.

The multichannel MIDI bug from MPC2 still existing in MPC3 on the other hand..

Yeah, they've clearly put a lot of time into new features, but not to have addressed is disappointing. With all the plug ins they provided, to have such basic problems having two or more musicians access them at the same time seems baffling.
