making samples monophonic

esteemed mpc4k users...

i've just come from an mpc2k onto an mpc4k.

i want to know how you can make a sample monophonic instead of polyphonic.

for example, on the mpc2k, i did the following:
1. i went into the programs page
2. hit the pad with the sample i wanted to make monophonic
3. went into the parameters of that pad/sample
4. changed it from poly to mono

how can you do this on a sample within a drum program on the mpc4k? i've looked through the manual and cannot see anything about this.

any advice would be appreciated.

Don't have the MPC in front of me, so going from memory, but in the
Program page, on one of the soft pages, you'll see a column for "Poly" and
it will probably say "64" or "32". Change that to 1 and you have a monophonic type of sampling.


There should be another page, that will let you set this for Glissandro and Mono Legato and what not. Check some of the recent threads, as I just saw somebody else talking about it. But check the Reference Guide
in the "Program" chapter for further details on setting this up.

BTW, be sure to stick to the Reference Guide not the user manual
if you want details, as it goes into much more then the User Guide.

Ok, im very new to the 4000, but this is one of the first things i learned...its pretty easy. The way i do it is:

Hit Program
From the LIST choose which program the sound is in.
Then i press KG MIX (F2)
Then i press Pitch (F3)
Then press the pad you want to make MONO
It will automatically take u to that sound.
Scroll Right, til you highlight the number 64 under poly
Make it 1
And thats it.

If theres an easier way, someone shed some light, like i said, im new too, so maybe im doing it half ass.

hey renegade what is this other page that ur talkin bout in the ref manual? I searched but didn't find anything on it...I remember coming from the xl myself how u could set a sample to mono, touch a pad and as soon as u let go the sound would completly silence itself w/o any subtle after effects of the sound assigned to the pad unlike the 4k when ou change the poly setting to 1..hit the pad and let go off it and the sound silences but u still kinda hear it fading out(sample is not set to one shot either)..

if u could elaborate a little bit I'd appreciate it...

Check the 4k Newbie bible also at the beginning of the board please the page is the program misc page for Midi block/Bend / Scale/ Soft Pedal under the Keygroup programs. The drum programs don`t list mono legato or portamento parameter. In the ref manual on pages 223 thru 225 it shows how to set, but I recommend to check out supplemental guides like (Reason 2.5 Ignite), (The Complete Guide to Remixing) or my current fav (Sampling and Soft Synth Power Series) to give a much deeper, clearer, and more detailed explaination on how to use the parameters in the 4k. Someone else more experience using these in the 4k will come along. I hope this guides help you to better understand the world of a full sampler. If you are already familiar with full samplers then bang on player.

^^^everyone is right, but also to add to it............

to get it to respond the same way as the mpc2xl........in sample mode, turn the sample to "one shot" that way you just have to hit the pad and it will play it out until you hit it again, just like mpc2xl.
