Fuse Going Out?

What’s up ya’ll, hope everybody doing okay in these recent times. Been while since I posted.


I got a question about my 3k cutting off in the middle of nowhere with the screen going blank and all the LEDs staying lit until I flip the power switch. It can be powered back up immediately afterwards, but I think the same thing will occur after it being powered on some time. And it’s inconsistent because other times I’ve used it recently it hasn’t shut off like this, but the pattern I noticed is the last few times it did were all after about an hour of use on the last three sessions. I did buy a power conditioner recently that my 3k is plugged into, and had no issue with this prior to that. I’m not sure if there’s a correlation or not ( kinda beside the point), but I would like some insight on what the most likely cause and remedy would be?

I doubt this will be easy to triage through a forum. There's plenty of things that could be wrong.

You may need a new power supply. Other components may be old or damaged. There may be heating issues. Plenty of other stuff as well.

If you don't know how to do electrical work yourself, you're best bet is to find somebody who is reputable and knows how to do that work. It sounds like power issues, but wether it is heat, bad/old caps, or something else is anybody's guess.

Unplug the unit, flick the power switch on/off a few times.

Open the unit, check the wire harness from the psu in the corner and re-seat the connector going to the mainboard.

See if your unit is still doing the same sh*t.

If it is, then among other things I what I would do is look into a replacement power supply.

One thing to note - It isn't uncommon to have cracked traces on those 3000's, so when you're hitting the pads does it restart then or what if you turned it on and left it alone, will it restart without you even touching it?

Now that you mention it, I specifically remember that for every time it cut off like that, for each time it happened the exact moment I was hitting a pad! Glad you asked, not sure what to make of that.

You'll be surprised I suppose. I'm careful in choosing what to work on and deciding if I'm willing to do it myself. I'm not an electrician, but I know how to get enough understanding of what I'm doing to decide to do the work or not.. I'm not afraid to bring out the soldering iron if need be for example, that's easy to me. And I've found there's reputable posters here that have good advice and experience to pull from as a guide to help me make a choice. I've seen enough of them diagnose issues just based on description a number of times, and I've even got one resolved by posters here previously when I first got this machine years ago, pertaining to my RAM.

I had about two more sessions since the time I started this thread. The last one of the two sessions were about two weeks ago and is the time when it finally gave out I suppose. I could smell a slight electric burn smell just before and after it gave out.

Today is the day I finally got around to opening it up.

I’m reminded of how I’ve yet to even upgrade anything in this machine since I got it. A few things I’ll probably consider upgrading is side panels, pad sensors and also adding more RAM.

For now I still need to figure out what’s up with the power. Now after this last incident it clicks on and the lights show up all at once red, but there’s a blank screen and that’s about it. I don’t notice anything blown on the power supply area but I’ll have to start removing some of the parts to see what’s underneath maybe. It would be amazing if only it was the socket that need to be replaced, but idk.

Apparently may not be as easy to source the power supply either.
