MPC-Stuff.com are you watching...
I posted his Force version about 2 months ago, but hopefully this MPC version will make more noise & bring out the hustlers. Somebody can make a nice chunk of change selling this as service.

He has another hour & half video that went into more detail. I didn't watch it but check that out & or ask him for more info. I talked to on reddit after I posted his Force RAM video & he very cool to chat with.

I said it before and I'll say it again - the juice ain't worth the squeeze for this particular mod. It goes beyond an average skill set and requires expensive tools to even think about doing. EVEN IF one had the ability and tools to do this sort of thing, would they REALLY want to deal with the barrage of emails from paranoid MPC users every time something unrelated to the mod goes sideways later on down the road? On the other hand, would you trust a modder doing this to your machine? If they screwed it up, it wouldn't be a "whoops I cracked the plastic" sort of mistake. You'd have to basically buy an entirely new unit.
The only way I can see this as being worth anyone's time would be if the roks were modded and checked out with proper test equipment beforehand. This way the buyer could just swap them out on their own. Even then, you're then paying what, $300+ for something Akai will likely officially do sooner than later, anyway?
I'd love to be proven wrong here. The MPC Live desperately needs more memory, but I'm not sure this mod is it.

That's one hellava hack
Akai should of put that in the MPC. still not powerful enough for me though.renegadebliss wrote:Saw this:

I can't see AKAI going near this. They might have to mea culpa for the whole '2gb of sampling ram' debacle at launch. It would also eat into the market for the likely/expected new MPC that will come on the heals of MPC3. For sure theres no news or indication for that future product, but the platform is 6 or 7 years old, processor and ram update on a new device would keep their hold in the market and shift plenty of units.
And f*** it, as they say, Hack the planet!
Have a great day

Nutrisse wrote:I should clarify - I didn't mean Akai would be modding units. I meant that MPCs having 4gb (and possibly higher) as standard in the near future is a near certainty. I'm all for hacking the planet, and I have a long history of doing so, but I don't trust that Akai *wouldn't* implement a sort of RAM "shut off valve" on future firmware releases when not adhering to the amount of RAM the firmware expects to see on boot.
Personally, I'd jump into a RAM hack if I knew the machine was running a custom/open source firmware. That said, it looks like the cost of this mod is near exactly as much as I thought it would be. Not sure the additional $300 is worth it for the MPC Live in my case, but I'm excited for anyone willing to jump in. It's a step in the right direction.
