Help with midi issue

Hi guys just got an x se, really like it. Quick question I have a native instruments m32 keyboard, which does its midi out via usb.

Is there anyway I can use it with the mpc in standalone, and still have it control it control my vsts in Cubase at the same time if I need to.

Would I plug it into the mpc, or would it go straight into my laptop and Cubase and back out to the mpc? I’m a bit stuck on this.

Just had a look at midi splitters on google. Think I’m even more confused now. The ones I’m finding are mostly 5 pin midi ports.

I have a motu m4 which has 5 pin midi ports on it, should I use these with the mpc (in-out, out in), and plug my usb m32 into the laptop? Am I going down the right route in this thinking?

My daw is Cubase 13 by the way

It seems the M32 only supports USB-MIDI, so you'll likely have to switch the connection between your PC and MPC as needed. With a keyboard like the Launchkey or MPK, which has both USB-MIDI and MIDI ports, you can connect to both the PC and MPC at the same time.

Lampdog you posted some links to those usb to midi converters. Are you thinking this is possible what I want to do then? The above comment seemed to think it’s not possible and I will have to hot swap.

Could you explain the method to achieve this with those converters you posted.

Those USB-MIDI interfaces probably won’t be suitable. If you connect M32 > PC (with DAW routing needed) > USB-MIDI interface > MPC, you can control both the PC and MPC simultaneously from the M32, but it won't be standalone. Many MIDI keyboards come with both USB-MIDI and traditional MIDI connections, so you might want to look into those.

Hi Elijah thanks for that reply. Kinda makes a bit more sense. Just wanted to add (if it helps), I have a motu m4 as my interface, this has physical midi in and outs on the rear, wouid that help the situation any more?

So m32 to the laptop as you said over usb, then somehow use the midi out on the rear of the motu to the mpc?

Sorry if these are seriously basic questions, I’ve never had to set anything up like this as it’s my first mpc.

Yes, that's correct. You can connect the MOTU M4 to the MPC using a MIDI cable like this:

Keep in mind that you will need a DAW to control the MPC from the M32.

So once the midi is going into Cubase, I can then set a midi track in Cubase to trigger the plugins in the MPC X Se in standalone, so tube and hype etc?

I'm not too familiar with Cubase, but I think you should be able to do that with a MIDI track in Cubase.

In cubase. Create midi track. Set midi in to M32 and midi out to mpc, then select the midi channel you want to control

Soundcard? I dont know what your setup is, you cant use mpc as vst in standalone mode. If you want it to work with midi, then you have to record audio separetely
