Ok, so on gearspace, someone commented back to me saying that (according to MPC Tutor) duplicating tracks doesn't duplicate the samples in memory. I've found that to be not the case, and I'm on 3.4. If this is true, then the old workflow is still possible (although track mutes still hard cut audio).
Also, I've used Audio Tracks for live performance backing track purposes for a couple years now. On 2.x, when using Audio Tracks, the mix settings (volume levels etc) you set for one sequence, stayed the same for other sequences. I would typically work around this by varying the level of the actual sample itself rather than in the mixer. But now I'm worried, is this how the arranger/mixer works? I've just started to build out a live set using Audio Tracks, and I'm super relieved to finally be able to use the stems I got from my mix engineer/producer because of the new disk streaming ability. But I've mixed the levels of those stems, and created submixes with drum busses on them, etc. If I start a new sequence for a new set of Audio Tracks with stems from another song, are these parameters global? Will I not be able to make a new mix for those Audio Tracks, with different levels and effects and routings? The idea is to have one long sequence for each song live, which is how I've done it. If this is an issue, will my only solution be to make automation for each track, on each sequence?
As much as I really hate the 1:1 relationship everything has in MPC3, I've found it really inspiring in the UI, and it's muchhh easier for sound design and creating dynamic live performances, so I really hope these things are possible.
