I knew within the first hour of the beta I wouldn't be making the move to 3.4

I just hope that suitable updates are rolled out for both.

Especially the CV stuff.

Majority of the "improvements" are of little use to me. Dislike the new mixers. No need of disk streaming. The new UI is garish and cluttered for the little information it actually displays.

I was pretty miffed at first but no longer care. I don't want a substandard Daw in a box so 2.? Is for me.

There will be many people like you say, but I'm still waiting to read a comment from someone who uses it exactly as i do, I've already communicated my suggestions to Akai, but i guess they won't listen, since i'm a "vast minority", and what i'm suggesting would mean throwing MPC3 into the trash.

For me, the perfect MPC3 would have been to add the new mixer to MPC2, as well as some improvements in Timestretch and slice editing, and in the Clip Programs tool, to have more flexibility when triggering audio loops in Live

I'm with you on that, i prefer an "old-fashioned" machine that does what i need, to a nice box that no longer does what it should.

I hope your requests are met, the CV part is perhaps the one I've tested the least, since i only have a semi-modular synth, which i don't use in Live.

I think i read in a previous post that the new feature of unifying the sequence tracks is the price to pay for having Disk Streaming and Arranger mode.
I really don't understand how people can need Disk Streaming to not take up all the RAM memory, I have a project with more than 60 sequences/patterns, without any relation between them, with Drum Programs, and at least 4 audio loops of 4 and 8 bars long, and the 2GB of RAM of my MPC One supports it without problem.
If you only use the MPC to make one song per project, 2GB of RAM is more than enough.

well, the kind of live use you say is very similar to the one i use, and has been explained by many users both here and on social media.
i make different genres but this kind of use is very key to my jungle\breakbeat livesets, where i very often use the same set of instruments on four or five sequences then gradually change some of them in a number of "transition" sequences until i have a totally different set of sounds that goes on for some other sequences then again etc...
not only that, in each sequences i usually have multiple tracks going to the same program, example: drums, so i can have different variations of a pattern inside the same sequence and switch between them via track mute, often i also mix the different ones to "build" complexity.
this is ALL GONE in 3.x and i think it will not come back because i fear we are a minority, especially if you look at demographics, i think in general the ones using this kind of workflow are older type of guys that learnt their mpc tricks on older machines in order to fully exploit the very little RAM we had at the time, while new users tend to want a DAW like approach because they are digital natives and they usually don't know the old hardware tricks (i'm saying generally, i'm sure there is a lot of new blood who comes out with really cool techniques, don't get me wrong).
so i don't think the backlash is strong enough to convince inmusic that this is really a bad move for the mpc platform.... i hope to be proven wrong.

I feel this whole statement.

I didn't go deep into 3 yet. Having much fun with the s2400. So here it is a question.
Can we crossfade those slices generated by this feature? If that's the case, such as in a DAW, then they could be of use to create rearranged chunks out of a sample.

*Edit* I'm not stoked this time.

I mean yeah if you can precisely align and rearrange the slices it might be nice to get it to do things you might have a hard time playing into some odd sequence.

I’m considering jumping into the world of MPC. Hoping you guys could answer a few questions. Does the new firmware DFD mean that ram is no longer an issue? I use a lot of large string sample libraries. I read users of the MPC keys stating that it constantly wants to authorize the libraries even though it’s been done before. Is this really a thing? Are these devices truly standalone, no internet? And, how does the new Arranger compare to a DAW, meaning, can you record some tracks linearly and then make patterns on others tracks and insert them into the timeline wherever? Thanks in advance.

Disk streaming is not a complete replacement for RAM, it's okay for audio tracks and basic keygroup playback but when used for heavy sample libraires there may be times when the disk cannot keep up with the amount of read requests.

Which string libraries are you referring to? Remember the MPC cannot read VST plugins or Kontakt libraries etc, you'll need to create your own versions of any libraries.

Authorization issues sometimes occur with Akai's plugins, not keygroup instruments, there is no authorization system for these. MPC3 is in beta, so it would be better to wait to see what improvements they make in respect to authorisation and to the arranger.

Okay thanks. Yes these are instruments that I made myself using the auto sampler in my Maschine Plus auto sampling from the VST LASS. Each string section instrument I have put together is about 300 MB so it doesn't take much for it to load things up. I was just wondering how much of a DAW replacement this could possibly be.

That's a sticky point ATM, as many feel the MPC was never meant to be a DAW replacement and shouldn't be approached with that intention. Akai no doubt would like it to be seen that way, but TBH they want it to be seen as everything to everyone (workstation, sampler, MIDI hub, brains of studio, multitrack recorder, DAW, live performance instrument, etc).

But the 'arranger' in the MPC is currently in way comparable to a proper DAW, not sure if it ever will be given the limitations of that tiny touchscreen. Akai definitely going through a 'process' ATM, some would say the MPC itself is having an 'identity crisis'.

My guess on this is they're trying to line themselves up against the next Maschine+ hardware revision, with v3 of NI's software due out 'soon' apparently.

Maybe they would have been better releasing a 'Force Lite' with 16 pads, or basically an MPC One / Live II that ran the Force firmware.

Although I'd imagine it would have been a hassle keeping 2 different flavours of the software for their hardware up-to-date.

I genuinely don't think Akai could care less about Maschine these days, from a standalone hardware perspective they left them for dust some time ago and I don't think Maschine 3 is going to change much, certainly not in relation to Maschine+.

No doubt the MPC Software could learn a thing or three from Maschine software, but that is clearly not a priority for Akai these days.

Beta 3

New features

Track Mute: Event vs. Audio Mute

Track Mute now offers greater flexibility with a new option to toggle between Audio Mute and Event Mute for supported track types. This enhancement applies to tracks containing both MIDI events and an audio path, including:

Drum Tracks
Plugin Tracks
Keygroup Tracks

For MIDI and CV tracks, Event Mute will always be applied, while Audio Tracks will always use Audio Mute, regardless of the selected option.

Event Mute silences new MIDI events but allows any currently playing events to ring out naturally.
You can seamlessly switch between Event Mute and Audio Mute via the Track Mute Toolbar, giving you more control over how your tracks behave during muting.

Export Drum Pads as Separate Stems

Exporting individual drum pad stems is now more streamlined, allowing greater flexibility in mixing and post-production. You can render an audio stem for each pad with events in a drum track. To export drum pads as stems:

Load a drum kit and record your pattern into the MPC sequencer.
With the drum track selected, press MENU and then choose SAVE.
In the SAVE selector, choose Drum Pads as Stems.
Specify your preferred audio format and destination for the stems.
Hit EXPORT to render your stems for easy mixing in your DAW.

Faster Sample Loading

Improved Performance: Sample loading now runs on a background thread, significantly reducing load times for programs, tracks, and projects.
Streamlined Program Handling: Replacing programs and samples is now more efficient, especially when loading a new program file into a track that already contains existing samples.
