Hi Team,
Question about midi timing.
Is there a way to shift this a bit forward or backwards?
Got an external synth, midi out from mpc one, and the audio from there back into the mpc.
It’s pretty close, in lantency but I got the feeling it just needs 1 micro second or so.
In ableton you can shift the timing a bit per channel, and was wondering if the mpc’s supported this as well? (Without the need to bounce the audio to samples first)

Thnx in advance

If you're triggering from the MPC and routing audio back into the MPC, it likely has everything to do with the audio inputs not being real-time, unlike the MPC X which has real-time inputs.

The only workaround I'm aware of is this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLNW-mHe3fI&t=210s

Essentially, delay everything else so it matches again. You won't *feel* the delay, but you'll definitely hear an improvement once it's gone.

I use tbe « digital delay » on the mpc one this way.
Tweak the amount with my ears, using rimshots.
I thought this offset comes from the midi latency

Ah I get the point, so in theory,
If I got 4 tracks :
1 midi track (to synth)
2 return audio track (from synth)
3 drum track (samples)
4 another sample

I could set a delay or sample delay on track2 to give it a notch back in time.
And I could do the same on 3&4 to give it a slightly bigger time delay (or route them to a buss)
In order to make sure that te midi information to the synth is milliseconds in front of the audio overall.

Seems plausible ,,, and needs some testing.

Thnx for the help

When recording to an audio track (rather than during live performance), about 1ms of the sample (440 samples) is automatically trimmed.

That’s good to take note of.

Try going to the midi settings and upping the midi clock granularity. (ppqn). on both mpc and your synth(s). I am using an mpc one and my midi timing feels tight going to my microkorg and microfreak. i'm using proper midi din off the back of the unit though not usb.

Well the effect “sample delay” does the trick. @ ultros, it’s for use with external synths and putting that audio back in to the mpc.
This creates a small delay. And I was looking for a way to shift all audio a couple of millis back in time to give priority (sort of saying) to the midi output , and thus making all audio tracks walk along in time.
“Sample delay” worked briljant and quite simple.
I just didn’t know this, though it was a strange effect that didn’t do much, and then I stumbled upon my question .

Thnx forum for the help

Yep i concur Sample Delay plugin does the trick!
Just make sure to route all internal tracks to Submix 1 -> insert Sample delay plugin on it with 15ms delay then -> route external audio to a different Submix track (let’s say Submix 8 for example). That’s it!
Works with my template as well..

lol i dont have a keen sense for latency some times i should test my set up more vigorously to see what kinda times i end up with. the internal card uses 128/48000 so it should be around 266 ms. (for sound), i have never thought about testing midi latency and should go do that now.

Yes indeed,, sub mixes to route the audio to, even sub mixes for return audio (from synth etc etc) than you can leave the midi out tracks just standard with no delays, and from there on one can nudge it all in time. It’s briljant, one just needs to be aware that if using the metronome and editing something in the sequence that the metronome is ahead of the audio so it sounds a bit of,, but that needs so practice :-D

You could always program a metronome of your own by creating a drum track with your favourite metronome sounds, disk stream them if you got MPC 3 so it won’t clutter your memory, send it to the sampled delayed Submix 1 and fire it on/off anytime you like. You can even program an external controller for it..
A wonderful feature request it would be to change metronome output to submixes too!
Cheers!
