It could still happen. It will probably be the last one but who knows. It being discontinued physically doesn't mean they can't drop some OS updates. Akai never supported any device this long & now with MPC3 who knows how much time that going to give the current gen.

I think it's just giving users a preview on the units that they already have vs dropping a new gen with 3.0 know too many MPC heads would claim they hate without even trying it.
MPC 3.0 prepares MPC users for a new Force & or a hybrid device that will have been made to physically support 3.0.

Even if the Force doesn't get a new update the OP should still wait for the official MPC 3 to drop before making a decision. The Force clip-matrix & other things makes it better device IMO.

After 3 years I suspect he may have made a decision.

What are you talking about?

3.0 public beta prepares people to deal with 3.0.

That's it.

 He'll if I know!

MPC3 makes the MPC more closer to the Force OS. Once people adjust to Programs being Tracks which was one of big differences, rocking a Force or some new hybrid unit won't seem so strange as it would before 3.0.

My line of thinking is that now that the Force is done, if they dropped a new gen Force first before any new gen MPC, most Force users will probably get it, but most MPC users will of course watch the review & some seeing that it's like the OS from MPC3, more would get it then they would if MPC3 never came out.

The only main thing missing from MPC3 is the clip-matrix, but I keep reading comments from MPC users asking for it or something like to work with the Arranger better which would the next logical step for Akai. Hopefully they make it happen, since it opens up the door for another cool way to come up with songs/beats.

I dont think the legacy MPC heads want a force MPC hybrid device.

I certainly would prefer to stick with the classic 16 pads layout; but the nu skool MPC guys probably want the increased pad layout of the Force on an MPC.

Rather old school head here... and I *think* I'd like an MPC with 64 pads like the force, 16 q-links, etc... I really did enjoy playing on the Force, but there were (and probably still are) a few things that it did differently or was unable to do that the MPC could. Most of it was pretty trivial, but 64 chops did feel nice, and being able to have far more key modes to play instruments was pretty awesome.

My biggest concern is that it'd be too much to cram into the interface.

If you have to ask, then the method is not for you. For us Force owners, the extra pads are incredibly powerful.

It bears being said that all of the things “missing” on Force was just OS-based. If MPC3 does ever appear on it, all of that could go away.

I don't want 64 pads, I want at least Akai's Ableton Live launchers to work with Clips in the MPC 3.
That way you still can have a small foot print for the actual box, old heads don't need to use it.

I really do not understand why this isn't the direction they go in? Especially considering the next version of MPC One or Live will be able to be about half the size and weight it is now. Couple it with an APCKey 25 or 37 and it's a super portable production studio.

Instead the Akai clip controllers do not work with MPC2 and so far CLips aren't in MPC3. :WTF:

You get it!

With 64 pads you can take a 8 bar sample/loop & chop each bar into 8 chops & lay them across the 64 pads right in front of you, so no pad bank hopping when your jamming & more pads mean more pattern/riff possibilities that you couldn't come up with 16 pads.

You can also load up 4 drum kits at once & play them while the beat is going to what work & even mix them up live. The 64 pads & the copy & delete button makes so easy to move sample around a kit.

The pads let's you move around the clip matrix faster by holding Shift+a pad while in Launch mode. Each pad starting from the top left, moves the tracks by 8 at a time: pad1 is for tracks 1-8, pad2=tracks 9-16...pad8=57-64.

Giving the MPC the clip matrix as a option & letting it hook up a MIDI controller like it own APC64 would be cool for many people, esp those that don't want to always have 64 pads. It looks like that where Akai is going. As more people use MPC3 they will keep asking for MIDI clips & Force already provide them with the OS. Once MPC users realize the clip matrix may look different than the MPC seq, but it's the samething but, just more powerful because it's more flexible there will be no turning back. The matrix got rid of my need to keep up mute tracks & I love it.

jpeg wrote:if u want 64 pads u have the Force for that; why do u want the MPC hardware to become a Force when u already have the Force? or presumably a Force MK2

I never said I want the MPC to become the Force. Reread my comments. The point was now that the Force is discontinued & MPC3 is out which is based on the OS, it prepares current gen MPC users for the current Force & or a potential new version, if they never really checked it out or did but didn't understand it.

I was saying that if a new Force mk2 comes out before a new gen MPC, there would now be more MPC3 users that would watch a loopop demo & be like you know what, this is like MPC3 but better physical design to deal with it & some users would either jump ship or get both.

The MPC always have a 16 version, but a 32 version with a Force style clip-matrix would be a dope option for many. They gotta do something different for the next gen. They currently have a MPC with battery & speaker & two with keys. I also predict a MPC Keys88 with hammer action full weighted keys. Like why stop at 61 & most real pianist won't recommend learning on anything less than weighted keys.

Akai can keep supporting both the MPC & the Force. At least make it so the MPC can use the APC64 & a clip-matrix.
