It's been the downfall of many of my beats which are off beat too much

But it's also been the most positive factor in my best beats.

Frankly, I don't like to use it. JJOS2xl lets's me step edit too easy. Or re-record easy. I don't feel like i need a computer correcting my drums.

Like i said. my over confidence in not using quantization has probably hindered me a bit.

I say you should experiment without using it at all. At this point, years of doing this, why would you still need it?

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t.
I don’t have a real method.
I do whatever I feel “that day”.

It's usually not a bad idea to pin your beat on the 1.1.1, but beyond that make your own grooves be they 2 bar, 4 bar, or whatever else.

Quantize can absolutely ruin a feel of a beat... so don't be afraid to get sloppy... heck chop off time, change start and end points on samples...

yeah it depends bro. Some days I can't beat the pads to save my life. Some days I'm on point. I think it has to do with how rested I am. I've noticed when I jump on my Key 61 early on a Sunday AM after getting a good nights sleep I'm "on" with slapping the pads in a decent manner. During the week when I jump on after work after a long stressful day, not so much..

quantize can be used in very creative ways, especially when you use more than one setting on a single sequence.
i experimented quite a bit with quantize settings in some of the tracks on my "la via del tamburo" album, in particular on tracks 3, 5 and 6 (and especially on track 6). the whole album is heavily quantized. you can check it out here:

Just record the patten unquantized at slow tempo and corrected any bum notes with step edit and then sped up,the tempo. Or simply use quantize strength on the newer mpcs. Get all the feel you want.

If a note is 10 ticks late (positive offset) and you apply 80% quantize strength, the note is pulled:

10 ticks × 80% = 8 ticks

So it becomes:

10 - 8 = 2 ticks off

Yes just been learning the craft and sound designing pads with samples. I mostly visit the forums to stay up to date on going on with 3.5. My replies box is full so I don’t get any notifications.

I thought it was just me for a long while. Also can’t check the checkmark boxes for a selection to delete, lol.
