etc/shadow is different compared to 2.x, should it look like this (before editing root password)?

If so, what should root now be - before, it was 8 colons with no *:

Code: Select allroot::::::::

What would it be now? Here's the full text currently (assuming cloudlfare allows)

And do we still leave everything else in this file 'as is'?

not a problem :)
let me know if you managed to sort it out, hopefully next thursday you will have to do it again lol. I was hoping for them to release a new build last thursday but it looks like they broke their three week release cycle :/

does it throw „password” / permission denied prompt at you or it just freeze the session / timing out ?
latter one is down to wifi which is quite flaky in those betas, sometimes I have to switch it on/off several times to obtain a correct ip address (even with factory firmware). In some rare occasions it even tells me that my wifi password is incorrect :WTF:

EDIT:
what version number did you entered when you compiled the image ? it should be 3.4.0.105BETA (beta suffix is important).

btw. I've sent you DM with my image so you can check after me (I might missed something important)

password not accepted (it's blank). I have a working modified public beta 2 that someone sent me and just re-installed this to double check everything and this works fine, logs in straight away. I even copied his modded config files to see if that fixed it but nope. I will go back and pick this to pieces, obviously doing something daft, never had this before.

Did you manage to make this work on 3.?

Thanks for those informations.

I've tried to modify 3.4.1.100 firmware.

When I extract the firmware with 7zip I receive this error message :

"There are some data after the end of the payload data
There are some data after the end of the payload data : mpc-3.4.1.100-update"

Is it normal?

After modifying the files and compressing with mpc img the SSH firmware is smaller than the original firmware.

With 2.x firmware the SSH firmware was bigger.

Is it normal?

I've not tried to flash my MPC Live with the modified 3.4.1.100 yet cause I don't want to brick it.

Any tought about that?
